Positive Behaviour Management Policy Outline of procedures for dealing with behaviour at Parklands Community Primary School This appendix outlines actions to be taken by all staff to deal with a variety of behaviour situations in a variety of contexts: ! Strategy for dealing with low level behaviour in a learning environment "! Strategy for dealing with refusals #! Strategy for dealing with higher level incidences of behaviour $! Strategy for dealing with low level behaviour at lunchtime %! Strategy for dealing with higher level incidences of behaviour at lunchtime &! Strategy for dealing with low level incidences of behaviour during wet playtimes '! Strategy for dealing with higher level of incidences during wet playtimes (! Strategy for dealing with low level incidences of behaviour during wet lunchtimes )! Strategy for dealing with high level incidences of behaviour during wet lunchtimes! The consistent application of the Positive Behaviour Management Policy is the responsibility of all staff at Parklands Community Primary School. . ST!"T#$% &O! '#"()*$ +)T, (O+ (#-#( M)SB#,"-)O.! )* " (#"!*)*$ #*-)!O*M#*T *here deemed appropriate+ or in line with recommendations made by external professionals such as the Behaviour Support Team+ additional support strategies will be implemented for specific children to support them in meeting expectations regarding behaviour and conduct! *here a child has a behaviour difficulty+ the class teacher will discuss application of the sanctions below with the ,eadteacher+ -eputy ,eadteacher and other relevant personnel which may include .earning Mentors or the Special /eeds Coordinator! This discussion will determine how these sanctions are applied in con0unction with the child1s 2ndividual 3ducation or Behaviour Plan!

Staff have discussed and defined a common agreement as to what constitutes low level disruption4misbehaviour! ! 5sk the child verbally to stop the behaviour! "! 2f the child continues+ move the child1s name to the Moon image! 5t this point put the child1s initials on the board with % after them to indicate that the child will be re6uired to repay % minutes of learning time! *hen the learning time is repaid is down to the staff member1s discretion although this should be the next lunchtime+ at the end of the school day or first thing the following morning! Children should not lose any minutes from their playtime! Minutes should be deducted preferably from lunchtimes! #! 2f the poor behaviour choice continues+ the teacher should increase the time recorded on the board after the child1s initials to 7 minutes time lost! $! The maximum minutes that should be recorded after a child1s name is 7 minutes in 8oundation Stage 9 % minutes in :ey Stage 9 "! 2f a child reaches this+ then a yellow card should be sent to the Smile Studio and a neighbouring classroom to alert other personnel that additional assistance may be re6uired! %! Members of staff who receive yellow cards should go immediately to the classroom! They should negotiate with staff who sent the coloured card to determine appropriate action to be taken! &! 5 Behaviour ;eflection 8orm should be completed to an appropriate standard and reviewed by the class teacher! 5ny additional documents such as letters4pictures of apology completed by the child should be attached! This should be done during the time the child loses from their free time! '! The Behaviour ;eflection 8orm should be forwarded to the school office for inclusion in the central Behaviour .og! 2f the child starts to behave+ the staff member may move the child to the Sun image!

The lead professional should ensure that the child repays the time recorded! 2f the child complies+ modifies behaviour and completes the Behaviour ;eflection form and any relevant apology letters4pictures to a high standard+ the lead professional may reduce the minutes the child needs to repay but this should not be done during the session in which the child is misbehaving! This should only occur after the child has undertaken the necessary follow up action and reflected on their behaviour choices! 8ollowing resolution of the incident+ staff involved should hold a short debrief session to evaluate actions taken in order to develop whole school policy and practice! *here appropriate+ key issues arising from this debrief session should be communicated to a member of the .eadership team to inform policy review! /. '#"()*$ +)T, !#&.S"(S Pupils at Parklands Community Primary School are regularly reminded that they are not expected to refuse to cooperate with adults or their peers! *here deemed appropriate+ or in line with recommendations made by external professionals such as the Behaviour Support Team+ additional support strategies will be implemented for specific children to support them in meeting expectations regarding behaviour and conduct! *here a child has a behaviour difficulty+ the class teacher will discuss application of the sanctions below with the ,eadteacher+ -eputy ,eadteacher and other relevant personnel which may include .earning Mentors or the Special /eeds Coordinator! This discussion will determine how these sanctions are applied in con0unction with the child1s 2ndividual 3ducation or Behaviour Plan! to escalate more rapidly! ,owever+ the child can be informed verbally of how much time they have lost at regular intervals! 5s far as possible+ the attention of the teacher and other pupils should be focused away from the child who is refusing to cooperate! #! 2f the child continues to refuse to comply+ after 7 minutes in 8oundation Stage or % minutes in :ey Stages or "+ a yellow card should be sent to the Smile Studio and a neighbouring classroom to alert other personnel that additional assistance may be re6uired! $! Members of staff who receive yellow cards should go immediately to the classroom! They should negotiate with staff who sent the coloured card to determine appropriate action to be taken! 5ppropriate action may include removing the rest of the class to an alternative location+ provided that this is not disruptive or detrimental to their learning+ a member of staff working in the room+ monitoring the child who is refusing from afar or removing the child to discuss the reason for their refusal! %! <nce the child is calm and the situation is controlled+ at a time determined by the staff member involved+ a Behaviour ;eflection 8orm should be completed to an appropriate standard and reviewed by the class teacher! 5ny additional documents such as letters4pictures of apology completed by the child should be attached! This should be done during the time the child loses from their free time! *here a refusal has been made+ the child may also be re6uired to complete any unfinished work! &! The Behaviour ;eflection 8orm should be forwarded to the school office for inclusion in the central Behaviour .og! '! *hen the child returns to the classroom for the session following the refusal+ their name should be returned to the Sun image! The card sent to the school office should be directed to the ,eadteacher by 5dministration staff! 2n her absence+ it should be directed to the -eputy first or a member of the .eadership team! "! Members of staff who receive red cards should go immediately to the classroom! They should negotiate with staff member who sent the coloured card to determine appropriate action to be taken! the child involved! #! 5ction taken to resolve the situation will differ according the circumstances and individuals involved! *here appropriate+ contact with the school office may be made to telephone the child1s parents4carer if removal from school premises is deemed the most appropriate course of action! $! <nce the situation is resolved+ the child would usually be re6uired to complete a Behaviour ;eflection form! This should be done at a time determined by the members of staff involved! 5ny additional documents such as letters4pictures of apology completed by the child should be attached to the reflection form! %! The Behaviour ;eflection 8orm should be forwarded to the school office for inclusion in the central Behaviour .og! &! *hen the child returns to the classroom for the session following the incident+ staff should ensure that their name is on the Sun image!

Staff should ensure that other staff are

'.!)*$ (.*C,T)M# This is situations where children are refusing to cooperate in situations where they are putting themselves, others or school property at risk. ! Send a red card with your name on to the staff room and school office immediately! The card should be sent with another adult or reliable children so that you may stay and monitor the child involved! "! 5ssess the situation and work with other lunchtime supervisors to remove any other children or property who may be at risk as soon as possible! #! 2nform the staff who come to offer assistance of the events which have occurred! $! ;ecord brief details of the incident in your notebook! 3. ST!"T#$% &O! '#"()*$ +)T, (O+#! (#-#( )*C)'#*C#S O& B#,"-)O.! '.!)*$ +#T P("%T)M#S Children must not be left unsupervised in classrooms for any period of time! 2t is the teacher+ or the professional in charge of the class during the day+ to ensure that the class are not left unsupervised! The member of staff responsible should liaise with any other staff working in the classroom+ such as a teaching assistant+ to ensure that an adult is present at all times! *here staff agree+ the teaching assistant may stagger their break so that the classroom is supervised! *here the lead professional in the classroom does not have adult support+ they should liaise with a .earning Mentor or teaching assistant in another

class to ensure that there is adult cover should they need to leave the classroom! 5 club is held in the Smile Studio for any children who find playtimes challenging! This will also be on during wet playtimes and children who usually attend this should attend as normal! 2n the case of a minor incident in the classroom+ the following action should be taken by the lead professional: ! Speak to the children involved to establish facts in order to decide what further action is re6uired! "! 2f it seems like the situation will develop+ invite child concerned to go to the Smile Studio provision! #! 2f the situation continues to develop+ and the child involved declines the opportunity to go to the Smile Studio+ send a yellow card to the staffroom and Smile Studio to seek assistance from other staff! $! The staff who respond to the yellow card should seek to remove the child from the classroom in order to discuss the choices they are making in a reasonable and calm manner! *here appropriate+ the child should complete a Behaviour ;eflection form! %! <nce completed+ the Behaviour ;eflection form should be sent to the school office to be placed in the central file! 4. ST!"T#$% &O! '#"()*$ +)T, ,)$,#! (#-#( )*C)'#*C#S O& B#,"-)O.! '.!)*$ +#T P("%T)M#S 5s stated previously+ children should not be left unattended at any time during breaktimes when they are unable to go outside! 2t is the responsibility of the professional supervising the class during the day to ensure that children are fully supervised at all times! 2n the case of a more serious incident in the classroom+ where a child is deemed to be at risk of harming him4herself+ another child or school property+ the following action should be taken by the lead professional:

Send a red card to the Smile Studio+ the staffroom and the school office4,eadteacher1s office as soon as the situation appears likely to deteriorate! 5t no time should the child be left unsupervised! "! <n arrival of the staff responding to the red cards+ negotiate the action to be taken! This may include removing the remainder of the class from the area into the school hall or Children1s Centre rooms! #! <nce the situation is defused+ the child should complete a Behaviour ;eflection form! This should be referred to the ,eadteacher or a member of the Senior .eadership Team so that any re6uired action+ such as contacting the child1s parents+ may be undertaken! $! The Behaviour ;eflection form should be placed in the central file! 5. ST!"T#$% &O! '#"()*$ +)T, (O+#! (#-#( )*C)'#*C#S O& B#,"-)O.!
