St. James Town was initiated
in the 1950s. The idea was to
create a city within a city. Where
inside one large city block, a
neighbourhood would have all of
the essentials to grow a healthy
community. However, due to
developer stripped the amen-
ties out from the masterplan. St
James Town was planned to have
clinics, barbara shops, a commu-
nity YMCA and shopping center.
It nevered happened. St James
Town city has turned into a resi-
dential slum. The target buyers
have changed from the swinging
mid-income singles to low-come
immigrants. Today, voices in St
James Town is still grumbling on
the community facilities. OMG!
will address that.

The towers created in this man-
ner are of a scale not suitable to
the city surrounding the site and
so we reduce their size without
increasing the tower footprint by
splicing them and reattaching
them at varying levels.
We now add to these towers a
linking horizontal plane using the
remaining units displaced by the
existing towers without altering
their form, essentially creating a
mirror of the ground plane build-
We now remove those units that
are displaced by the existing
buildings, which we will preserve
and improve.
We now return those units we
displaced to create the grid, tak-
ing them and turning them 90
degrees in order to minimize their
footprint and raise the units from
the ground plane.
