MedGroup Packet Tracer Skills Integration Challenge: Part 3Add Wireless Access to the Urban Clinic LAN Prototype
Objective Configure the wireless access points.

Background and Preparation We had a lab just like this, so I only added a few tidbits. After finishing your LAN prototype for the wired devices in MedGroups new topology, you had a meeting with the project manager to review your work. Pleased with your progress as the project lead, she assigns you the next task to add wireless access to the LAN. She provides you with the addressing scheme for each wireless LAN. Your task is to configure the wireless access points and test full connectivity within the LAN. Routing to the Internet and to the rural clinic will be implemented in Part 4.

Step 1: Review the specifications provided by the project manager.

Use the following specifications to configure the wireless access points:

AP
UC-AP-1

Interface Addressing
INTERNET 192.168.100.2/24

SSID
MG-STAFF

Security
WPA2 PERSONAL WITH AES

Passphrase
ITS391ROCKS

WIRELESS 172.16.100.1/24

UC-AP-2

INTERNET 192.168.200.2/24 MG-GUEST WIRELESS 172.16.200.1/24

NONE

For both APs, the starting IP address for the wireless LAN is .50 with a maximum of 25 users

Step 2: Configure the wireless access points.

Refer to the table in Step 1 to configure the wireless access points. a. Configure UC-AP-1 and UC-AP-2. (Use the GUI) Use a static address (from the table) on the Internet interface on each wireless access point. (Remember what the default gateway would be ON UC-AP-1?...that sub-interface on the router192.168.50.1) The DNS address is 128.107.0.10 and needs to be entered twice on both access points. Set the appropriate router IP (from the table above) and subnet mask. (Save your settings, then the possible DHCP range will straighten out so you can adjust it.) Configure each wireless access point to allow wireless hosts to use DHCP. Set the appropriate SSID for each device and enable WPA2 Personal security.

Configure the wireless laptops to access the appropriate WLAN.

Configure UC-Doc and UC-Nurse to access the wireless network through UC-AP-1. Configure Guest to access the wireless network through UC-AP-2.

Note: You might need to release and renew the DHCP configuration several times before each device is fully configured. (The easiest way to do this is on the Config tab of the laptop, click Static, then click DHCP again. Or, from the Command line of the PC>ipconfig/release then >ipconfig/renew.) Also, you must release and renew the DHCP configuration every time you change the DHCP server configuration.

b. Verify connectivity. The wireless laptops should be able to ping any wired/wireless host on the LAN.

Step 3: Save your file as Part 3 and upload.
