MedTech Start-up ecosystem

The likes of Mark Zuckerberg and Jack Dorsey have made entrepreneurship an increasingly popular career ambition for the younger generation. Similarly, with start-ups as the key drivers of Medical Technology (MedTech) innovation, many countries attempt to recreate the entrepreneurial hubs of Silicon Valley, Boston and Israel. However, in order to succeed in building up a MedTech start-up ecosystem, it is critical to understand the current local and global innovation and commercialisation landscape. What key components Strong interest in does Singapore already have, and what are we still missing in order to develop a vibrant and sustainable MedTech ecosystem in the long-run? How can we strengthen our existing Medical Technology and Any discipline local and global networks? entrepreneurship Through case study analyses and interviews with local and foreign entrepreneurs, investors, clinicians and industry veterans, intern will analyse the local MedTech start-up scene and develop recommendations on how to develop a strong MedTech entrepreneurial network and accelerate the growth of a robust MedTech start-up ecosystem in Singapore. With the proliferation of "Internet of Things and Services" (IoTS) in the physical world, there is an increasing trend for Smart Cities. Smart Cities are hyper-loaded with sensors and communications infrastructure, and allow city officials to use advanced analytics and automation technologies to improve their management and provision of services to the population. The purpose of this study is to develop a good understanding about the trends, supply and demand landscapes, and brainstorm on how Singapore could itself develop into a globally renowned Smart City. The study should also attempt to provide recommendations to EDB from the angles of both investment promotion and sustaining Singapore's competitiveness as a global city. Study the emerging trend of port electrification and green ships, where energy management is becoming a more critical topic, and to understand the linkages between the companies in the energy space and in transportation and how Singapore can play a role in the development of this space. To succeed in the retail industry, retailers increasingly are leveraging innovative solution providers to optimize their operations and engage with consumers. Understanding FuturePlanning and Policy ready Business Spaces for Singapore

The Singapore Government will be creating more business centers outside the Central Business District (CBD) to provide employment and amenities closer to residential areas. Currently, Singapore's limited land resources are zoned with clear division between manufacturing, residential and commercial activities. Businesses have given the feedback about the growing gap between their requirements and the type of space available in the market to host their activities - which could be due to how land is currently being zoned. For an example, with emerging new business activities that cuts across manufacturing and commercial, and industries that cutting across multiple disciplines, it is becoming harder to meet their demand for creative space uses. This project requires the intern to explore global innovative real estate projects that could meet the needs of emerging businesses in Singapore. The intern will also be guided to explore the management, allocation and pricing mechanisms for land for such creative developments.

Evolution of Singapores Economic Strategy and Competitiveness

The project comprises: 1) A study of how EDBs industry development strategies have changed over time since its founding, and its implications for our future work. 2) A mapping of Singapores economic competitiveness over time compared to its competitors (countries as well as cities), and an inference of possible links between EDBs strategies and Singapores competitiveness through the years. Singapore is home to over 100 aerospace companies that collectively provide comprehensive maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) capabilities for a full range of commercial, business and rotary winged (helicopter) aircraft. This depth of capabilities has positioned Singapore as a key MRO hub for Asia-Pacific with an output of $8.7 billion in 2012. AsiaPacific is projected to have the largest fleet of aircraft globally in the next 20 years. To seize this opportunity, many countries in the region (e.g: China, UAE, Malaysia, Indonesia) have made growing their Aerospace industry a national priority. As such, it is vital for Singapores aerospace industry to constantly evolve, in terms of both existing and future capabilities, to ensure a sustained leadership position through this period of unprecedented growth in Asia-Pacific. To do so, we must evaluate our MRO capabilities vis-a-vis the region and proactively plan our growth strategies.
