Evaluation of Sources Topic: Violence and abuse in domestic violence, youth violence, and family violence. Academic Source: -Mantel, B. (2013, November 15). Domestic violence. CQ Researcher, 23, 981-1004. Retrieved 1. According to the article, Barbara Mantel is a freelance writer in New York City. She is a 2012 Kiplinger Fellow and has won several journalism awards, including the National Press Club's Best Consumer Journalism Award and the Front Page Award from the Newswomen's Club of New York for her Nov. 1, 2009, CQ Global Researcher report Terrorism and the Internet. She holds a B.A. in history and economics from the University of Virginia and an M.A. in economics from Northwestern University. Barbara is very knowledgeable with journalism and has a good grasp of whats happening in todays news. 2. This article gives an overview of domestic violence which relates to my topic because it first relates domestic violence to a story that happened in North Carolina, where a woman got beaten to death by a baseball bat. It provides examples, charts, and an overview of what is domestic violence, why it happens, etc. 3. There is evidence in this article in which starts with the story, a chart explaining that a quarter of women suffer severe violence, and explanations of ideas that have and have not worked in the past. 4. I did not suspect any bias in this article. However, the charts and stories really provided good insight and scholarship on the article. 5. Article updated on November 15th, 2013 which is only a year old. It is very useful because the stories are recently new and the charts/statistics are accurate. 6. Overall, I would relate this article a 4 because it provides recent and accurate information on domestic violence. However, there was information that was not needed for my research project.

Academic Source: -Billitteri, T. J. (2010, March 5). Youth violence. CQ Researcher, 20, 193-216. 1. Thomas J. According to the article Thomas had accurate information with the topic Youth Violence. 2. In this article, it provides examples of youth violence specific examples in which will help explain why youth violence in America happens. Also, it has charts which will help give an explanation of the specific areas of where youth violence takes place. Finally, it gives an overview in which explains what youth violence is. 3. The stories and charts, which the charts provide statistics. These are prime examples of evidence. 4. Again, I did not spot any bias in the article. 5. This article was updated March 5th, 2010 so it is a little bit older but the stories are still true and relevant to my project. Also, the charts might have changed within the four years; however it wont be a drastic change. 6. I would again rate this article a 4 because it had the information I needed but it had info in there as well, that did not tie into my topic. Websites/Articles from the Web: -Saenger, Sieglinde A. "Family Violence: A Review of the Dysfunctional Behavior Patterns MINCAVA Electronic Clearinghouse." Family Violence: A Review of the Dysfunctional Behavior Patterns - MINCAVA Electronic Clearinghouse. Minnesota Center Against Violence and Abuse, 25 Mar. 2009. Web. 24 Feb. 2014. 1. Sieglinde Saenger is a German national. She was raised in post war Germany and the concepts of poverty, family violence and substance abuse are not new concepts to her. She has personal experience of family and personal relationship which helps the emotion of the article. 2. This article gives a nice overview of family violence. Not just in the United States but also in Germany which gives a wide variety. By doing so, it informs us that violence happens all around the world. 3. Her article provides personal stories and overview of family violence.

4. Because some of her personal experiences in the article she mentions might be bias however, it that was the only points of bias I noticed. 5. Article was updated on March 25th, 2009 which is older but still had valuable information on the topics. 6. Overall I would rate it a 3.5 because it was not a long article and it had bias moments but still had a great overview on family violence and the stories the author provides improves the emotion within the story. -Carter, Janet. Violence in dating relationships: Emerging social issues. New York: Praeger. This book has not been checked out yet which is the reason why I will be unable to provide answers to the six evaluation questions. However, this book has to do with violence in dating relationships. The book is old but it can provide relevant information to violence in personal relationships.
