QUEST FOR FIRE REACTION PAPER The film shows the life in the prehistoric era of humans where mammoths, sabertooths and different tribes including cannibals exist. It molds its characters within the context of their surrounding and their limited knowledge of the world. The first 5 minutes of the film seem to be boring but the rest proves to be exciting. The film projected a seemingly prehistoric setting to be realistic. Huge prehistoric trees, nice landscapes and untouched savannas were shown. On the film they showed mammoths and sabertooths. Nude women, sex slavery and cannibalism are evident. The background music dramatically adds much to the suspense and action in the story. It pretty much realistically portrays the life back in the past. The film kicks off with a man at the entrance of a cave looking after a fire and some wolves try to get near him. They were drove away by using fire. It was then showed that the man acted as a lookout, while his tribesmen were asleep in that cave. Then soon after, a different tribe, which I assume to be cannibals, attacked their tribe killing a great number of that tribe. The film shows that the prehistoric society system is not yet well developed. For me, the prehistoric people have a hard time for survival because they dont have a good systematic leader like the one we have usually have today. Thats why they were easily attacked by intruders. After they were attacked, they retreated to a cold place and also a very wet one. If only they searched for a place thats much more comfortable to live in, that would I guess, lessen their hardship. Also one thing that bothers me is that they dont have a language. It seems like they were communicating via body language. As what history says, a common language is a necessary factor for survival. Hence, one of the reasons why they were easily defeated is because of the insufficient warning of the threat that the cannibals were attacking them. Also, one of the noticing phenomena in the film is that good weapons were not yet invented. Their usual defense was bones of animals and throwing rocks at their opponent. Thats why, when they were attacked by the other tribe, they were easily taken aback because they didnt have the good weapons to subdue their opponents. Also when the three were attacked by a saber tooth, they just climbed a tree because they didnt have the weapon to kill the sabertooth. Fire played an important role in the film. The featured tribe didnt know how to make fire, thats why they sent 3 tribesmen to hunt for fire. After numerous adventures they find a fire amongst a cannibal tribe, but also learn how to produce it when they are led to an advanced human community by a young girl whom they've saved from the cannibals.
In conclusion, this movie showed the hardships that our ancestors have to go through because of the limitations in their knowledge. Survival was no easy task for the homosapiens in the prehistoric times. Overall the filmmakers didnt fail to realistically portray what had been.
