Story Summary for The lady or the tiger The lady or the tiger, by C.G.

Draper, is a short story that takes place in a semi-barbaric country, specifically in a large arena, an imaginary place, in a kingdom whose king is "semi-barbaric. The main characters include the king, a man who had an inplacable justice and great power. The most important thing to him was the way he worked enforcement the laws of the country. The princess was kings daughter. She was incredible beautiful and she had a mind as wild and free as the kings. She had a heart like a volcano and as the king loved her deeply, he was very jealous of her, so he watched her closely. The young man was a breave and handsome worker. He was a good worker, but he was low birth. The princess loved him and they were lovers until the king discovered their love. The king had some modern ideas. But his ideas were touched by his wild imagination. The fair laws of that land were made by the king. People saw the laws of the country at work. If someone broke a law, he was accused of the crime. Then he had to come before the king in the arena. The accused could choose either one of the doors in the arena. Behind one of the doors there was a tiger, and behind the other door there was the most beautiful lady ready to be married to the man. Kings daughter loved a brave and handsome young man and they were lovers until one day the king discovered their love and he trew the young man into prison and named a day for his appearance in the arena. When the day arrived, thousands and thousands of people came to the arena. The country was searched for the finest and the most beautiful young woman and the lady knew perfectly how lovely, beautiful and kind was she. When the moment came, the young man looked at the princess and when their eyes met, he knew the princess would know which door he should choose. At that moment, she lifted her right hand and made a quick movement towards the right. No one saw it except her lover. Whithout stopping, he went to the door on the right and opened it. Before kings daughter decision she had cried out in fear, the moment when she imagened the scene with painful thoughts. Anyway, she had lost her lover, but we dont know which was her final decision. The story ends in the climax, because the most suspenseful moment in the story happened when the princess lifted her hand giving the sign of which door the young man had to choose. Free will, important feelings (love, pain, hate) were shown in diferent events of the story and the conclusion that someone could do depends on characters mind and the importance the reader might give. There is no resolution in the story. The authors underlying theme is dealing with the consequences of your actions and choices as the princess did.
