I had never realized them was much to be found in the rain water pond behind our house except for lia.rge! quantities of mud and sometimes a water buffalo. lfwas !;;Jrandfatherwho introduced me to the pond's variety of life. To show his 'pond world' grandfather one day told me to sit under the shade of an old peepul tree with him near the pond. For the first ten minutes we saw nothing. Then a small black mass of shining shadow could be seen. We touched this mass with the end of a stick and' it soon became alive. / Thousands of !:ttle black tadpoles / wriqqled into life, pushing and hustling each other. Soon another black blob /' J' appeared i:1 the middle of the pond. / This time it was a frog's head, its great. / eyes staring hard at us. He did net know if W6WE!re friends or enemies and kept his body out of sight. After all a bird called a heron his enemy mighl be waiting to make him into a tasty. meal. When he made sure we were not herons he informed his friends and , neighbours and soon there Vlere. several big heads and eyes above the ' water's surface.' The air was soon' filled with the sound of wurk, wurk, ;fi. wurk.

on the verandah. They were furious when they discovered that my frogs were the c:aUSE~ of the noise. SE~eingthat dawn was breaking the frogs had in one voice begun croaking their morning song. Grandmother . . wanted to throw the frogs, bottle and all, including me out of the window. It was grandfather who got peace by giving the jar a good shaking and the fro:g::;stayed quiet. VVhile everybody went 'back to bed I was obliged to stay awake and shake the bottle whenever the frogs showed signs of demonstrating their singing ability and breaking into a song.

Do ~(IOUsometimes think of all the wonderful things that you would like to do someday';' Here is a.poem about just that. Read it carefully. OIVlE DAY
Many people I know make lists Lists of all the.thinqs to do They make shopping lists, And birthdays to remember lists . And lists of important telephone numbers too.
But w w
the lists I make once in a while, After I've had time to think matters through, Are quite unlike any of these, you know, For my lists' 'are full of wonderful things That I hope,' someday to do!

Somnday, I'll buy a rocket And zoom to outer space, I'll visit Venus, Jupiter and Mars. I'll make stopovers at every planet I see To check If I can find new undiscovered stars. Someday I'll dive to the bottom of the sea, To hunt for mermaids with long green tails On my way down, I'll swim with dolphins, And listen for sin9ing humpback whales
Someday. I'll fly one hundred kites Up into the blue sky, all at once! ' As they flutter and leap and dance, I'll make them perform, the most incredible stunts! Someday I'll own a thousand pets} For I'll adopt every creatu ra , who rolls a friendly eye at me: Gosh! As you read all these things On my wonderful list, Can't you see What fun some day is going to be
