Alcatel-Lucent 1511 Media Access Cross-Connect (MAX)

F L E X I B L E P R I M A RY R AT E M U LT I P L E X E R A N D C R O S S - C O N N E C T | RELEASE 1.0

Due to its hardware modularity, the Alcatel-Lucent 1511 MAX can scale from a single 2 Mb/s 30-channel multiservice access multiplexer to a compact 132 E1 port 1/0 cross-connect. It is ideally suited for missioncritical business access applications, as well as utility network applications in a variety of networks with different services.

In public telecom networks, the AlcatelLucent 1511 MAX is typically used in fixed, mobile and NGN networks for data/voice separation, grooming and leased-line applications. In non-telco utility segments such as rail, oil & gas pipelines, electricity, military and security applications, a linear or ring type of network is required with dropand-insert functions. With the Alcatel-Lucent 1511 MAX, service delivery is guaranteed by equipment redundancy at all levels. It combines 2 Mb/s access, grooming, drop-and-insert, bypass, hubbing and very compact crossconnect functions on a single shelf. Moreover, the advanced network management software Alcatel-Lucent 1511 EM, as well as the extensive features of the Alcatel-Lucent 1511 MAX help network operators reduce maintenance, supervision and network planning expenses.

Central redundant controller card with 4 aggregate G.703/G.704 E1 ports Access and cross-connection of 64 kb/s and n x 64 kb/s, allowing grooming, drop-and-insert, hubbing, conferencing and broadcasting Synchronization from different sources: 2 Mb/s port, external 2 MHz reference BITS clock, internal clock Tributary boards for voice, data, teleprotection Trail protection of N x 64 kb/s payload Redundant -48V DC/DC power supply to each controller and tributary slot Modular redundant 16xE1 tributary unit to build a fully protected 132 E1 cross-connect in a single shelf Centralized management by means of PC/server running Alcatel-Lucent 1511 EM using SNMP either via the external Ethernet interface or via in-band management. The in-band management is mapped in PPP in a programmable number of timeslots on two redundant links

B E N E F I T S
Reduction of hardware costs with the primary rate multiplexer and non-blocking 132 E1 cross-connect integrated in one unit Protection of business-critical services with high reliability via essential function redundancy and the trail protect feature Ease of upgrading with a modular architecture for rapidly growing or changing networks Full software control of network configuration, maintenance and supervision Fast, efficient and flexible management. The Alcatel-Lucent 1511 EM management software satisfies all three of these criteria in an easy-tolearn and easy-to-use package. Management of all elements in a system is performed from a single terminal comprising a compatible PC running Windows or a workstation running the Alcatel-Lucent 1511 EM element management software.

Tributary board for POTS (FXS) Tributary board for POTS mirror (FXO) Tributary board for IEEE C37.94 teleprotection interface Tributary board for 64 kb/s G.703 co-directional/contra-directional NxE1 tributary plug-in, balanced and unbalanced variant NxE1 IO board with two slots for (optional) redundant NxE1 tributary

Teleprotection
The Alcatel-Lucent 1511 MAX transports up to 12 64 kb/s channels between two foreign teleprotection switches via an optical IEEE C37.94 interface.

2/4-Wire Audio Interface

Connection between analog modems or PABX ports for tie-line connections can be achieved with the 2/4-wire audio board.

Functionality
With the Alcatel-Lucent 1511 MAX, operators can take advantage of a broad functionality.

Conference Bridge
Two types of conferences are possible: Master-slave conference: One participant is the master all others are slaves; Up to 100 slaves are possible. Can be used for voice and data. Full conference: This type of conference is used when all participants need to share information equally. Every participant receives information from all other participants except himself or herself. This type is only used for voice. The conference bridge is a simple and useful function on the CMX in networks with supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) and/or audio dispatching requirements.

POTS Subscriber Multiplexer

The POTS subscriber multiplexer is used in the subscriber network and enables a flexible mix of voice and data interfaces. Signaling adaptation of the customers requirements can easily be done.

Hot Line
The Hot Line is a bi-directional application, with a centralized battery set, whereby one subscriber hooks off and the other is called without dialing. The application uses the same board as the POTS application. The boards lines are programmable as either a POTS or Hot Line.

Technical Highlights
The Alcatel-Lucent 1511 MAX has a compact architecture comprising: A 7U high 19-in. shelf with front cabling A passive IO card with the electrical interfaces for 4 E1 aggregate links, synchronization inputs/output, management, power, top rack lamps, alarm inputs, drive outputs. It also provides two variants for unbalanced and balanced E1 interfaces. An (optional) redundant controller centralizing all common functions such as cross connections, conference bridging, synchronization, E1 aggregate interfaces, and power control of tributaries Sixteen free slots for tributary boards Tributary board for low/high speed data (V.35, V.36, X.21, V.28, EIA-485) Tributary board for 2/4 wire voice band E&M

Dry Relay Input/Output Contacts

The CMXIO card provides a number of detectors for dry relay contacts used for collecting alarm indications of collocated equipment or for driving outputs. It also allows the visualization of alarm states on the same craft terminal or server as that being used for the multiplexer functions.

Data Multiplexer
As a data multiplexer, the AlcatelLucent 1511 MAX includes the following possible data tributaries: 64 kb/s G.703 co-directional with E&M signaling 64 kb/s G.703 contra-directional 2 Mb/s and N x 64 kb/s G.703/G.704 (fractional E1) Low speed: 50 b/s to 64 kb/s for V.36, V.35, V.28 and X.21 N x 64 kb/s (N = 1 to 31); interfaces: V.35, V.36 and X.21

Trail Protection
The 64 kb trail protection capability enables route protection on the trail level. If used, the Alcatel-Lucent 1511 MAX transmits data via two different trails. At the receive side, data coming from the healthy trail is used. If this route fails, data is automatically taken from the other side. Also the synchronization clock source is switched.

Service Grooming
The Alcatel-Lucent 1511 MAX grooms different services, such as voice, data, and telemetry from scattered remote nodes or locally connected services into dedicated E1 aggregate links towards specific service nodes, such as SCADA headend, video server, data server,

and public addressing. This grooming function is typically located at a networks central node, but it can also be distributed across scattered nodes to optimize transport network resources.
