Title of Activity: Inside Out

Number of Teams & Group Size: Minimum 5 people per group Maximum 10 people per group At least 2 teams

Logistics Needed: For each group: 1 x tubular nylon climbing webbing / rope / belt ~ 2 - 4 meters long

Time Allocated: 10 - 30 minutes

Goal: Successfully come out from underneath the circle as a group

Preparation & Set-Up: Ensure sufficient tubular nylon climbing webbing for all groups Make 1 knot in the tubular nylon climbing webbing / rope, if using a belt, simply clip it together, thus making a circle Distribute the tubular nylon climbing webbing to all groups

Directions for Conducting the Activity: 1. Gather participants into teams, and ask them to place the tubular nylon climbing webbing circle on the floor, then get the whole team to stand inside. 2. Inform participants that they are to pass the circle up and over their heads, coming out from underneath the circle. However, they cannot use their hands, arms, or shoulders at any time, or else they will have to restart the activity. 3. Begin the activity, and observe participants until the complete the activity. 4. Increase the size of each team by assigning them participants from other teams. Then conduct the activity again. 5. Continue until all participants complete the activity in 1 big group using only 1 circle.

Specific Rules: 1. Participants must be standing inside the circle, with the circle lying on the floor at the beginning. 2. Without using their hands, arms, or shoulders, participants must come out from underneath the circle. 3. If participants use their hands, lower arms, upper arms, or shoulders at any time, the entire team must restart the activity.

Variations: 1. Give participants a time limit (~ 15 seconds) to complete the activity. 2. Outside In: Once participants have completed the activity, ask them to now go into the circle from underneath it, without using their hands, arms or shoulders. 3. For added challenge, ask participants to complete the activity without touching each other.

Learning Points: Teamwork Improving the Process Coordination Perseverance Planning Creativity Communication Integrity

Facilitator Notes: If using different coloured tubular nylon climbing webbing, you may ask participants to pick their favourite colour team. Be especially watchful towards the end of the activity, as participants will unconsciously use their upper arms or shoulders.
