CONTEMPORARY LITERATURE COMPONENT SHORT STORY FOR YEAR 4 (SK)

The Humble Prince

SYNOPSIS The King and Queen of Naga Pura did not have any children even though they were married for fifteen years. One day while out hunting, the King heard the sound of a baby crying. He decided to take the baby home. Announcements were made throughout the country to find the babys real parents. However nobody claimed the baby. The King, therefore, adopted the baby and named him Prince Taming. Soon after, the Queen became pregnant and gave birth to a son. His name was Prince Masri. A few months later, the Queen was pregnant again and another son was born to the royal couple. They named him Prince Kirat. Prince Taming spent most of his time with the people. Prnces Masri and Kirat, on the other hand, loved hunting. To prove that they were brave, both princes lied to the King on how they saved the lives of others. Much later, the King fell ill and needed to choose one of his sons to be King. However, it was the people who chose the next king. He was Prince Taming who was known for his kindness to the people. At the same time, the King found out that his real sons were actually liars and cowards. These two princes were then punished for their deeds.
