About MEC
Model Engineering College, Thrikkakara is a premier institute that has made it to the pinnacle of the engineering arena in a span of just 20 years. The institution is the first selffinancing college to be established by the Government of Kerala under the aegis of the Institute of Human Resource Development for Electronics, IHRDE (now IHRD) and the first to be affiliated to CUSAT (Cochin University of Science And Technology). The college has witnessed record breaking placements channelled through dynamic corporate scenarios. MEC was featured the 28th among the top 50 Government Engineering Colleges in India. The college offers four undergraduate courses in Computer Science & Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Electronics & Biomedical Engineering and Electrical & Electronics Engineering and one postgraduate course in VLSI Design and Embedded systems. Unique in its structure, methods and goals, the college is strongly rooted in a philosophy of training and research that emphasizes the intimate relationships between knowledge and its application and seeks to promote the creation of an ideal society. Ideally situated at Thrikkakara, in close proximity to the IT hub of Kochi - Info Park, the Cochin Special Economic Zone, Kinfra Software Park and the proposed Smart City provides an ideal backdrop for strong corporate contacts and diligent academic pursuit. The college has been selected for financial assistance by TEQIP (Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme), a World Bank Project. As part of the scheme, it is expected to receive around Rs10 crores . An amount of Rs 4.3 crores has already been sanctioned. Tech) in various disciplines It shares a close rapport with various reputed organizations like National Physical and Oceanographic Laboratory (Govt. Of India, Kochi), Electronics Research and Development Centre (Trivandrum), Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (Trivandrum) and Sree Chithra Thirunal Institute of Medical Science and Technology (Trivandrum). The college has also devised innovative and pragmatic solutions to the R & D sector of the state.

Academic Eligibility: Candidates who have passed Higher Secondary Examination,

Kerala, or Examinations recognized as equivalent thereto, with 50 % marks in Mathematics separately, and 50 % marks in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry/Biotechnology/Computer Science /Biology put together are eligible for admission. Allotment to 85% seats of the annual intake is made by Commissioner for Entrance examination (CEE), Government of Kerala from the rank list of Kerala Engineering Entrance examination conducted every year by Govt. of Kerala .For Details of Kerala Engineering Entrance examination and allotment see the websitehttp://www.cee-kerala.org 15% seats are reserved for non resident Indians (NRI seats). For NRI admission separate applications are invited by IHRD and rank list is prepared on the basis of qualifying examination and students are admitted from this ranklist.

History
Model Engineering College was established in 1989 by the IHRD to provide quality engineering education in the industrial centre of Kerala. It was established as a selffinancing college with a fair degree of autonomy. The college started functioning in August 1989 in the premises of High School, Edapally with three degree courses offered in Biomedical, Computer and Electronics Engineering. On its inception, Model Engineering College was the first self-financing college under the Government of Kerala and was the first college affiliated to CUSAT. The college was shifted to the present campus at Thrikkakara in September 1994 and has grown into an institution of excellence. Currently, MEC is one of the most sought after destinations among Engineering colleges in Kerala. Our fame has spread throughout the country and students from different parts of the country have MEC as their preferred destination. The college has been constantly ranked at the very top in various surveys of Engineering colleges in Kerala, the MINT ranking being a good example. Our students have constantly proven their mettle in varied areas winning acclaim from different quarters of the society.
