Agri Horticultural Garden It was founded by William Carey in 1820. It has a significant collection of botanical varieties with facilities for gardeners and plant/flower lovers. No entry fee is charged. It is situated in Alipur, adjacent to Calcutta Zoological Garden. It is open from 7 am to 11 am & 1:30pm to 5 pm, closed on wednesday upto 11 am & on thursday. Office is open from 9 am to 1:30 pm. Address: South of National Library, Alipore. Ph.: 2479 1713 Energy Park Started in 2000, it is a joint venture of WEBREDA, Science Technology & Renewable Energy Deptt., Govt. Of W.B. It is open from 10 am. to 7 pm. Address: Eastern side of E.M. By - pass opposite to the Science City. Nalban Boating Complex This is a beautiful picnic spot for families who would like to spend a few hours in the quite greenery tucked away from the hussle and bustle of the city life. The attractions of the place are the paddle boats, shikaras & the hovercraft. Address: Sector IV, Salt Lake City , near Nicco Park. Kolkata - 700 003 Ph.: 2554 4895 Top Nature Study Park Concern for Calcutta, a Citizen Action Group,took over a park and a tank on Loudon Street & made it into a Nature Study Park, where children learn to identify plants with environmental studies. Bana Bithi - (Manohar Das Tank) A beautification project of CMDA inaugurated in the year 2000. One will enjoy the charm of greenary in the midst of fountains & murals Address: At the crossing of Queen's way & Jawaharlal Nehru Road. Horticulture Garden Founded by William Carey in the year 1820,this garden has collection of botanical varieties and promotes gardening & flower shows. Located at Salt Lake, this amusement park can be called The Disney land of West Bengal. There is no bar for any age group in this park. The various rides are enthralling. Food is not allowed to be carried inside but there are many food stalls to cater to all kinds of tastes. The park is opened to the public from 10.00 A.M. to 8.00 P.M. everyday during the winter and 11.00 A.M. to 9.00 P.M. everyday during the rest of the year. Address: Sector IV, Jheel Meel. Kolkata-91. Ph.: 2357 8101-0 Top Botanical Gardens Situated at Shibpur area of Howrah District, it was laid out in 1787. This is the oldest of all the Botanical Gardens in India. Its cover area is 270 acres. Inside is an incredible variety of about 50,000 trees. The pivotal attraction here is the giant banyan tree which covers about 404 metres of land. It has 600 aerial roots, 157 offshoots hanging down from the original tree.There are innumerable orchids and colourful flowers. Boating

There is a precious library in the garden which comprises a rare collection of books on Botany. It remains opens from sunrise to sunset. This ethereal ambience is ideal for fun, fiesta and frolics. Ph.: 2668 1466 Lal Dighi The Dalhousie Square Tank as named Lal Dighi to elderly Kolkatans is fed by natural springs, survives as the central feature of the town plan of Kolkata. It has a picturesque beauty surrounded by Writers' Buildings, Reserve Bank, GPO, Telephone Bhawan. Despite being called a Dighi or Lake, it is in reality a big pond. Rabindra Sarobar/ Rabindra Sarobar Stadium An artificial lake comprising of rowing clubs,safari garden, children's park, swimming clubs, an open air theatre (Nazrul Mancha), a stadium etc. Kolkata Maidan The Maidan is the most conspicuous vestige of British Calcutta. Ironically, what now serves as a heaven of tranquility and respite for Calcuttans, was originally intended as a ground to test - fire the guns of the Fort William. It is now a place for Migrants, travelling performers and trades people who exhibit their skills. One can have excellent view of Victoria Memorial, Red Road, Sahid Minar etc. from here. Top Mangal Pandey Park In Barrackpore where Sepoy Mangal Panday's act of defiance set the country afire in 1857 and Panday was hanged & is remembered in this park on the river bank. A beautiful picnic spot & easily reached by train from Sealdah. Address: Barrack Road, Barrackpore Rabindra Sadan / Nandan Rabindra Sadan is the seat of Bengali culture where cultural programmes & exhibitions are held regularly. The Nandan theatre hall behind Rabindra Sadan, is Calcutta's prime place for cine culture. It is a cultural centre for film enthusiasts and professionals. It was largely patronized by the late Satyajit Ray who inaugurated Nandan and designed its emblem. Its three motion picture theatres have the best screening facilities in Kolkata. One of the halls is used largely by film clubs to screen art films and parallel movies for their members. Address : Cathedral Road. Adjoining the stadium is the vast expanse dotted with beautiful trees and shrubs intersected by winding paths. Millennium Park A millennium gift from the CMDA inaugurated in the year 1999. It is a place to enjoy the ecstacy of the fresh cool wind of the ganges with your family & friends. It remains open everyday from 1 pm to 7 pm. Address: On the Strand Road near Babughat. Top Science City Located on Kolkata's eastern metropolitan bypass, it is place of entertainment and education for persons of all ages. This 21st Century marvel of science, communication and environment is the first and only institution of its kind in India. The convention centre complex has a capacity of 2215 persons. Besides, there are the main auditorium, mini auditorium and 8 seminar halls which are air conditioned and fully equipped with latest audio visual systems. Science City is the pride of Kolkata. It comprises several animals, birds and even creatures of rare species. The ' White Tiger ', an almost extinct race, is the chief attraction of the zoo. It houses a children zoo & has a separate aquarium across the street. Visiting hours : 8 am to 5 pm.
