11 General Description•

9 ™ The machine base has four holes that allow it to be bolted to the workbench.
™ The column (2) encloses the work spindle (1) which rotates freely on pre-lubricated
ball bearings (3). No further lubrication required.

™ A crank handle (4) fitted on the right side of the work spindle (1) makes for easy
rotation of the work spindle (1).

™ The left hand end of the work spindle (1) ends in a tapered nose with external threads.

5 ™ The tool head (8) is integral with the column (2).


™ The Millgrain tool supplied with the machine.
2 Setting the ring on the Machine•
™ Select the nearest size of collet (5) that fits the ring R.
1. Work Spindle ™ Place the collet on the spindle nose so that the male taper of the spindle engages

™ Slide the ring on the collet till the end face of the ring sits flush with the collar of
the collet.

6. Washer ™ Place the washer (6) so that the slot engages with the key of the collet (5).
7. Thumb Nut ™ Screw on the thumb nut (7) to expand the collet (5) which secures the ring.
8. Tool Head Do not overtighten.

12. & 13. Thumb Wheel ™ Remove the tool clamp (9) by unscrewing the two allen screws (11) by one turn.
R. Ring Move the clamp down and extract.
™ The tool clamp (9) has a slot to retain the millgrain tool shank (10).
1 ™ Place the tool in the slot of the tool clamp (9). Mount over the allen set screws (11)
then slide the clamp up and tighten both screws with equal pressure.

Creating The Millgrain Designs


™ The tool head (8) is integral with the column (2) of the machine.
™ The tool head may be positioned in the horizontal axis by rotation of the thumb wheel (13).
4 ™ The vertical movement of the tool is controlled by the thumb wheel (12).
™ To create the design, move the tool till it contacts the periphery of the ring.
™ Gradually increase the pressure while at the same time rotating the work spindle by
the crank handle. No more than six or eight revolutions are needed to generate the design.
7 6 5 R 2 3 ™ On completion of the design, move the tool away from the ring, unscrew the thumb nut (7)
and remove the ring by releasing it from the collet.

Numerous designs can be created by this machine with tools made specifically for the purpose.
