Review The Final Examination will be held on Wednesday, May 11 at 10:30 a.m. in M LNG 350. Chapter assignments, workshop concepts, in-class viewings, and lecture topics* Chapter 1. An Overview of Acting Why was acting born? Do certain physical and vocal attributes automatically ensure success for an actor? What is the physical standard for actors? What are the first and most important functions of the actors voice? How can actors be classified? What should actors know? What is the illusion of the first time? Chapter 2. Early Acting and Acting Theories Who were most likely the first actors? Who was Thespis? Describe the presentational acting style of ancient Greece. What was the Commedia dellArte? What were the acting conventions in the theatre of Shakespeare? Chapter 4. The Body and Stage Movement How is the body organized? What is Good Alignment? How are tension and relaxation identified and used by actors? How do actors (playing characters) move through space? How does the character body utilize the concept of weight, or gravity? How does time inform movement? What are the elements of a basic warm up? Chapter 5. Voice and the Actor What are factors of a good stage voice? How is vocal sound produced? What factors are considered to create an appropriate character voice?

Chapter 6. Getting Around on Stage Identify and define stage areas, stage movement, types of crosses, the shared position, and the given position. What are the factors that affect how and why actors move on stage? Chapter 10. Putting the Role Onstage What are the actors rehearsal guidelines? What are the three Vs of Good acting? Describe why the James-Lange theory is important for actors. Chapter 9. Auditioning and Preparing a Role (pp.173-8 only) Be prepared for all ten questions. Chapter 12. Acting for the Camera How is filming accomplished in television drama? What differences are factors for the actor in working in theatre and television? What are the special requirements for television acting? What does the intimacy of television filming and working for the camera call for from the actor?
