2D Artwork and Layout for 3D Production
Rosetta Stones ReFlex product utilizes 3D animation to create still images that make up a dialogue-based story. The user is assigned a role and then must converse with the other characters in the story. The 3D modeling and some 2D artwork was handled by a contractor, Liquid Development. All animation, lighting, final textures and remaining 2D artwork was produced inhouse at Rosetta Stone.

My Role: Producer and Director Project Responsibilities: supervise script; outline blocking and framing with storyboard artist; direct 3D modeling of characters, props and environment; create 2D artwork as needed; oversee animation, lighting and final textures; facilitate reviews with stake-holders; assist with post-production polishing (Photoshop). Design Contributions for Image Above: created initial design mock and layout for the email interface; finessed final design and content for email interface; created final layout and content for the whiteboard.

DESIGN

As Producer and Director of this story, I oversaw the layout of 23 additional webpages used in the story to prompt specific statements by the users character. Although I did not construct the artwork for the 23 other screens, I manually edited the layout as animation progressed so that each prompt would be clear to the user. Two of the 23 screens are pictured above.

I created the website artwork above for use on the laptop screen seen in the frame shown to the right. The story consisted of two coworkers discussing vacation plans. The design for this page needed to convey the feeling of a tropical destination, but with enough subtlety to not distract from the action in the rest of the image. I handled all aspects of design from layout through construction. Production Credits

DESIGN
In the story below, a manager asks his staff about specific projects and deadlines. Then he makes notes on action items. A project tracking application was crucial to providing clear prompts to the user. The two screen mock ups on the left were my rough drafts, serving as placeholders during animation and providing project stakeholders a starting point to receive feedback on the interface design. For time purposes the design was contracted out. Then I tweaked the contractors design to get the final versions.

DESIGN
This image is from a story in which the user plays a woman renting a car at an airport. I created this interface to prompt the user to answer a question by stating, I need a midsized car for three days. The design challenge was to create an interface that looks realistic, is aesthetically pleasing and conveys information to the user. There were seven variations of this interface featured in the story.

Producing and Directing: Photography Production

The majority of my experience at Rosetta Stone revolved around photography production. The following pages are samples from a kid-focused project produced between July and November 2012. I produced an average of 45 photos every three weeks.
