Toxic gases such as chlorine, sulfur dioxide and ammonia are commonly used for water and wastewater treatment, and in many industrial fabrication processes. The Uniform Fire Code Article 80 establishes strict standards for storing and handling toxic gases. Any facility that uses these gases must be prepared with a stand-by emergency scrubber system that will contain, absorb, and neutralize a release of the gas. This scrubber must reduce toxic emissions to less than 1/2 the Immediate Danger to Life and Health value. In addition, as of June 30, 1999, the Clean Air Act requires that any facility that stores toxic gas must prepare a Risk Management Plan (RMP). An emergency vapor scrubber system is an essential component of an effective RMP. To this end, RJ Environmental Products offers a complete line of emergency vapor scrubbers. Our emergency chlorine scrubbers have been rigorously tested by a C.A.B.O.* certified laboratory. In 1992 and 1997, full-scale tests were conducted with actual one-ton releases of chlorine gas. On both occasions, our scrubbers passed the test with flying colors, neutralizing the toxic gas while maintaining emissions well below the 5 ppm UFC requirement. A unique 38,000 cfm chlorine scrubber was also tested at release rates up to 300 lbs./min, with no emissions exceeding 1 ppm. Our equipment has been proven beyond question. Our knowledge, experience, and technology are unequalled.

RJ-2000 SYSTEM
less than 1 ppm, the RJ-2000 must remove 99.9995% of the chlorine. Our ability to provide this level of performance is based on first-hand experience with full-scale, one-ton gas release tests performed by an independent C.A.B.O. certified laboratory.
LOW COST INSTALLATION & MAINTENANCE Each RJ-2000
The RJ-2000TM Emergency Vapor Scrubber System sets the standard for emergency vapor treatment in the water and wastewater industries. The RJ-2000 is a patented, multi-stage wet scrubber system that is uniquely designed to handle extreme gas release rates and to achieve exceptional removal efficiencies. All systems are manufactured from the highest

THE INDUSTRY LEADER Since
A leak from a one-ton chlorine storage tank can release chlorine gas at a rate of 100 lbs/min or more, with inlet concentrations exceeding 500,000 ppm. To reduce the concentration to
its introduction in 1992, the RJ-2000 Emergency Vapor Scrubber System has become the industry leader, with more than 300 installations worldwide.
SYSTEM DESIGN
The RJ-2000 system uses a patented, multi-stage packed bed design. A pre-treatment stage handles extremely high gas concentrations, while subsequent high-efficiency
sufficient vacuum to contain the toxic vapors within the gas storage room. The toxic vapors are then pulled into the scrubber system, where they are absorbed by a concentrated caustic (sodium hydroxide) solution. The RJ-2000 system is designed to start automatically and to continue running until manually shut down. For ammonia applications, the system operates on a once through water basis. No recirculation pump is required and no caustic is used. Major system components include:
stages remove the remainder of the toxic vapors. The systems are designed for releases of chlorine, sulfur dioxide, or ammonia. The schematic diagram below illustrates the scrubbing process. When a leak occurs, the pump and fan start automatically. The fan provides

BULK SYSTEMS
Facilities that store 4 or more tons of toxic gas may require the RJ-2000 Bulk System. The Bulk System consists of a standard RJ-2000 scrubber mounted to a flange on top of a bulk caustic storage tank. The caustic storage tank is sized to supply sufficient sodium hydroxide to neutralize the largest possible gas leak. The recirculation pump and fan are also mounted on top of the bulk tank, while the control panel is usually mounted at ground level. Depending on the volume of the gas storage room, the air flow rate is typically 3,000 to 5,000 cfm. Roger Road WWTP, Tucson, AZ

RJ-150 SERIES
The RJ-150 is a smaller version of the RJ-2000 system. It is designed to contain and neutralize releases from 150 pound gas cylinders. Systems are typically designed for 2, 4 or 6 on-line gas cylinders, as listed below. The systems can be used to treat releases of chlorine, sulfur dioxide, or ammonia vapors. RJ-150 Chlorine Scrubber
