Parish Rummage Sale The Parish Pastoral Council will be sponsoring a parish rummage sale in late April. Please save your unneeded clothing and household items that are in good condition for this event. Kindly ask your family and friends to do the same. This is a great opportunity for you to help your neighbors and your parish.
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, We thank those who already made their commitments to our Campaign and we remind you that you can wait for the reminders to come in the mail making your first payments following the instructions given by the Archdiocese. After you receive the instructions in the mail, payments will be mailed to the Archdiocese as they hold our parishs account for the Campaign and they will send us report updates systematically. The money collected will be released by the Archdiocese to fund the projects mentioned in the Campaign case. The success of our Campaign depends on the participation of us all. Yours in Christ, Rev. Richard Milek

Due to a poor response to the invitation for the pilgrimage to Bloomington for the Passion Play, it was cancelled. Instead of the piligrimage, we have the Passion Play performed in our church on Friday, April 4 at 6:00pm in English and 8:00pm in Polish. The Passion will be performed by the Apostolic Youth group from St. Hyacinth parish. We have hosted their Passion Play before and it was a great Lenten experience enjoyed by many. Please invite your family and friends. Admission is free.

Lenten Regulations for Fasting and Abstinence

The annual observance of Lent is the special season for the ascent to the holy mountain of Easter. Through its twofold theme of repentance and baptism, the season of Lent disposes both the catechumens and the faithful to celebrate the paschal mystery. Catechumens are led to the sacraments of initiation by means of the rite of election, the scrutinies, and catechesis. The faithful, listening more intently to the word of God and devoting themselves to prayer, are prepared through a spirit of repentance to renew their baptismal promises. (Ceremonial of Bishops, 249). REGULATIONS FOR FASTING AND ABSTINENCE: Ash Wednesday, March 5, 2014, and Good Friday, April 18, 2014, are days for fast and abstinence. Fridays of Lent are also days of abstinence. The following may be reproduced in parish bulletins for the purpose of reminding the faithful of the regulations for fast and abstinence: ASH WEDNESDAY, March 5, 2014, and GOOD FRIDAY, April 18, 2014, are days of fast and abstinence. FRIDAYS OF LENT are also days of abstinence. FASTING is to be observed by all 18 years of age and older, who have not yet celebrated their 59th birthday. On a fast day, one full meal is allowed. Two other meals, sufficient to maintain strength, may be taken according to each ones needs, but together they should not equal another full meal. Eating between meals is not permitted, but liquids, including milk and juices, are allowed. ABSTINENCE is observed by all 14 years of age and older. On days of abstinence, no meat is allowed. Note that when health or ability to work would be seriously affected, the law does not oblige. When in doubt concerning fast and abstinence, the parish priest should be consulted. Fasting, almsgiving, and prayer are the three traditional disciplines of Lent. The faithful and catechumens should undertake these practices seriously in a spirit of penance and of preparation for baptism or renewal of baptism at Easter.

Respect Life
Whoever is moved by love begins to perceive what life really is. He begins to perceive the meaning of the word of hope that we encountered in the Baptismal Rite: from faith I await eternal life - the true life which, whole and unthreatened, in all its fullness, is simply life. Jesus, who said that he had come so that we might have life and have it in its fullness, in abundance (cf. Jn 10:10), has also explained to us what life means: this is eternal life, that they know you the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent (Jn 17:3). Life in its true sense is not something we have exclusively in or from ourselves: it is a relationship. And life in its totality is a relationship with him who is the source of life. If we are in relation with him who does not die, who is Life itself and Love itself, then we are in life. Then we live

St. Josephs Table

The Italian Catholic Federation is hosting St. Josephs Table on Saturday, March 15 after the 5:00pm Mass and after the Italian Padre Pio Mass at 7:30pm. Proceeds from donations will go to St. Francis Borgia.

Save the Date for the Lenten Mission

The Parish Mission will begin on the weekend of March 22 and 23 at all the English masses and will continue weekdays at 7:00pm until Wednesday, March 26. The retreat master will be Father Joseph Noonan who is a former associate pastor at ST. Francis Borgia, and currently the pastor of St. Damien in Oak Forest. Ordained in 1995, he previously served as Archdiocesan Vocation Director. Please pray for Fr. Joe so he can help us renew our hearts and lives.

From the Pastors Desk

On Ash Wednesday, by marking our foreheads with ashes, we started the Lenten Season, a time of penance and conversion. Todays first reading describes what our Lenten journey is about; it is renewal of our Covenant with God, which was established at the beginning of the world and was meant to last forever. However, that Covenant was broken many times by people because of their sins. The Lenten season is a perfect time to renew our friendship with God and repeat our promise of being faithful to Him. Lets follow Jesus, who is going to a deserted place to renew his Covenant with His Father and find in prayer the strength to fulfill His mission. During this Lent, we should realize our mission and responsibility toward the universal Church and the local one, which is St. Francis Borgia Church. Jesus calling, This is the time of fulfillment. The Kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe n the Gospel, can be only answered in the spirit of faith and prayer; His words call us to build the Kingdom of God, here and now. I invite and encourage you to participate in all the masses and devotions during Lent. Mark in your Lenten calendars the parish retreat and Lenten confessions, stations of the cross, and the Passion Play. I pray for each of one of you and your families so that this Lenten season will bring you closer to God and will strengthen your Covenant with Him. -Fr. Rich

Dear Parishioners of St. Francis Borgia,

Last November around Veterans Day I made an announcement that I applied to become a Military Chaplain, which was my deep desire since my childhood. I also made a promise, that Ill inform you about the progress of my journey. It is a long and very complex process: detailed and complicated applications, statements, essay writing, over the phone and face to face interviews, medical and physical tests etc... Last week I received the good news. My application was accepted and approved!!! That was step 1. Step 2- I have to attend 12 weeks of US Army basic training-program of physical and mental training required in order for an individual to become a soldier. Ill start my training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, South Carolina in the middle of September. With Gods grace I hope to be back home to celebrate Christmas with You. You are my parish family. I pray for you and please pray for me. Thank You and may God bless You. Fr. Marcin Bulinski
