Did Kabaka (King) Mwanga II engage in homosexual activities as the S.M.U.G. report alleges???
by Kamau Makesi-Tehuti

A short time ago, a 42 page report emerged, alleging the exposure of evidence linking homosexual behavior in Afrika, before caucasoids arrived. A large selling point to show irony of the article, is in highlighing a pre-colonial leader in Uganda who allegedly engaged in such gender confused activities. The logic of the researchers, is that Uganda, while passing thus far, the harshest anti-homosexual legislation, in their ancient past harbored a leader, a King no less, who acted this way before caucasoid influence. I had just so happened to already have been familiar with Kabaka (King) Mwanga II through prior research and had read such allegations-all thrown upon him by christian missionaries, specifically, for his harsh treatment of christians who came into his territory. He was notorious for killing all those who would disturb the traditional life ways of those in his perview, as caucasoids bishop Hannington & Mr. Mackay, as well as upwards of 60 of his own people found out. So when this article surfaced on facebook, put there by someone who I assumed knew better, supporting the article, we had a verbal altercation about it. However, being the researcher that I am, I stated this to my verbal combatant in regards to this piece: Kamau Makesi-tehuti [...] I am tablleing[sic] part of this talk...until I can get to Library of Congress & check some sources. The 2 on Mwanga ... Then I will be more confident in my responses. Yes I was wrong, they do have some references. Instead of saying NO references, I shouldve said DUBIOUS references meaning, I feel they come from church sources, which would NOT paint some1 in a good light esp. if he was rightly KILLING them to keep their culture, religion, ways of life off his area. But to be sure, I wanna check the sources. I WILL COME BACK TO THIS WHEN DONE. Thanks February 26 at 4:04pm So I went in with the task of finding the two references given and seeing if they indeed did support gender confusion among this Kabaka of Uganda, prior to caucasoid interloping. Below is the cover of the document.

Below is page 10 from the report alleging gender confused activities amongst the Kabaka of Uganda, King Mwanga II:

We want to highlight the particular paragraph, while taking note of the references given: A high-profile figure like Mwanga II, the last independent king or Kabaka of Buganda, was subjected to systemic vilification by Christian missionaries and later British administrators, on the grounds of his reported homosexuality.32 His life has been reassessed recently by Samwiri Lwanga Lunyiigo of the Makerere Institute of Social Research, dispelling many of the colonial myths.33 It is ironic that the rhetoric used today to condemn homosexuality as a Western import was used a century ago by colonisers to warn against indigenous Ugandan samesex sexual practices. That was the statement made and here are its two alleged references: 32 Bulletin of the American Geographical Society, vol. 41, No. 1 (1909), p. 58, review of Grington Berry, W.,Bishop Hannington and the Story of the Uganda Mission AND 33 LwangaLunyiigo, S., Mwanga II: Resistance to Imposition of British Colonial Rule in Buganda, 18841889, Wavah Books (2011)

I will let the references speak for themselves, by sharing them here & then add commentary afterwards. First, 32 Bulletin of the American Geographical Society, vol. 41, No. 1 (1909), p. 58, review of Grington Berry, W.,Bishop Hannington and the Story of the Uganda Mission

and now: 33 LwangaLunyiigo, S., Mwanga II: Resistance to Imposition of British Colonial Rule in Buganda, 18841889,Wavah Books (2011)

What you have before you is Disingenuous Research and Blatant Lies... 32 Bulletin of the American Geographical Society, vol. 41, No. 1 (1909), p. 58, review of Grington Berry, W.,Bishop Hannington and the Story of the Uganda Mission was supposed to be used to substantiate, A highprofile figure like Mwanga II, the last independent king or Kabaka of Buganda, was subjected to systemic vilification by Christian missionaries and later British administrators, on the grounds of his reported homosexuality.32 doesnt mention anything of the sort. Note also, to be clear, the reference IS talking about using the review of the book and not the book itself. You can go back to page 6 and re-read it for yourself. If one however, does read some primary research on Hanny & Macky, their own letters attest to his brutality in ridding his area of those who took on christian ways, but they themselves say NOTHING of any homosexual behavior, tendencies, existence. (Victoria Nyanza Mission & Bishop Hannington) This is just a disingenuous piece that mentions a pivotal character in the developments of the time, yet show NOTHING as to the claims made, homosexual Ugandan King. So now, if that one was bad, hold on to your seats, because this next reference to prove alleged homosexual existence of a traditional Kabaka, is a doozy. On page 7, you see the cover of the book spoken of as footnote 33. and now: 33 Lwanga Lunyiigo, S., Mwanga II: Resistance to Imposition of British Colonial Rule in Buganda, 1884-1889, Wavah Books (2011) to explain this: His [Mwangas] life has been reassessed recently by Samwiri Lwanga Lunyiigo of the Makerere Institute of Social Research, dispelling many of the colonial myths.33 within the larger context of: A high-profile figure like Mwanga II, the last independent king or Kabaka of Buganda, was subjected to systemic vilification by Christian missionaries and later British administrators, on the grounds of his reported homosexuality.32 His life has been reassessed recently by Samwiri Lwanga Lunyiigo of the Makerere Institute of Social Research, dispelling many of the colonial myths.33 It is ironic that the rhetoric used today to condemn homosexuality as a Western import was used a century ago by colonisers to warn against indigenous Ugandan samesex sexual practices. The only thing correct about this reference is that it does mention that there is a new book out looking at the life of Kabaka Mwanga II. The use of him as a reference is a Blatant Lie. The author and text chosen to allegedly support homosexuality amongst the people under his watch, but also upon the Kabaka himself, says the exact opposite!!! The author and book they chose flat out says, To the Baganda homosexuality was unheard of (83). The author and the book they chose shares why such an allegation would come about... This accusation was leveled against the Kabaka simply because he surrounded himself with many unmarried young men. Mwanga had no shortage of buxom girls from Buganda and Busagala(Nkore). In Buganda the beauty of Basagala women was legendry and powerful men such as Mwanga had a bevy of belles from there. So homosexuality was used to make him appear despicable to the

Baganda(83). The author and book they chose tells you the group who created the allegation and why: Mwanga has long suspected missionaries in the formenting of rebellion. Mackay, writing to his father on 28th June1886 told him what Mwanga believed about the missionaries: "These Christians are disobedient and learn rebellion from whitemen." (82) Christians were formenting a seditious group which had the impertinence to disobey Mwanga including young men from his own court. Christians were feared to be abettors of the European invasion of Buganda. Their activities threatened to disrupt the united front which was essential... (82) The accusation-of homosexualIty was used very effectively against Mwanga; it appealed to the 'Readers' who believed whatever they were told by their tutors but not to the Traditionalists who could not imagine it (84). So the first reference given doesnt even mention what they allege; while the second reference says the exact opposite and tells you why the lie started in the first place...again the authors and books THEY CHOSE, says this. So, in closing, Kabaka (King) Mwanga II, is vindicated against said slanderous charges. What other depths of intellectual dishonesty does the S.M.U.G. researchers stoop to more in this document to force upon Afrika, this confused gender agenda, one can only speculate. However, from an examination of just two (2) of their references in support of their larger goal, there seems to be no road too low and no backdoor left unchecked.
