FireDos Receives FM Approval
by Wally Barker After more than a years intensive work FireDos has received its FM Approval on 17 of our water driven foam proportioners. FM Global provides insurance solutions and property loss prevention engineering for worldwide property exposures through a single point of contact. Their loss prevention engineers help identify risks and recommend plans for reduction and elimination. For more than 170 years; besides providing insurance they have been providing product certification and testing services that conform to the highest national and international standards. They maintain a Research Campus where they re-create natural and man-made disasters. These processes consist of Fire Technology, Natural Hazards, Electrical Hazards and Hydraulics. After they have conducted and documented their findings they publish Loss Prevention Data Sheets listing products that have been approved so engineers, architects, end-users, among others can reference the product's specific approvals. When a product has the FM stamp on it an individual can be assured that it has passed a series of very

stringent tests and has been subjected to conditions that would normally never be encountered in a typical application or installation. Another important point of having a specific test procedure is that if another individual or manufacturer introduces a similar product for product it will be subjected to the exact same test procedure, thus making the playing field completely even. This knowledge

gives both the user and specifier reassurance that the product will perform as intended if installed as per the data sheet. periodically FM does follow-up testing to be sure that the manufacturer is still producing the product to the same quality standards that were in place when originally submitted. Quality assurance documentation is also verified. Along with FM approval, FireDos units have VdS CEA 4001, SES Lloyd AG among others. The systems are also DIN and NFPA 11 compliant. All of us here at FireDos are very excited to have the FM APPROVED Stamp on our water driven foam proportioners and look forward to providing you with our system for your foam installation. FireDos Support through Education
by Wayne Hepper
The TEEX Annual Industrial Fire School is hosted by Texas A&M and occurs every year during the heat of summer in one of the hottest regions in the United States. This provides a challenging and realistic environment for Industrial Fire Fighters from all over the World to work on their skills and prepare for the Middle East. The response to these positive displacement water driven foam systems was overwhelmingly positive with many of the students looking forward to incorporating them into their arsenal of Fire Fighting tools. Course instructor Mark Turvey from Lubrizol Corp. said they received a lot of positive feedback from his Apparatus II students on the FireDos systems, their ease of u s e , accuracy and the flexibility it allows them on an incident. Some time before the end of 2009 TEEX will take delivery of a new FireDos proportioning system. This will be a FD4000/3(1)-PP-M system. This is a stepwise adjustable 3 and 1 percent 1100 GPM portable foam system. TEEX will then be able to use this system for training on foam applications and will use it in their Tank Fire Training Program and anywhere they need a reliable, accurate proportioning system. Also students were able to get hands on training on the newest and most advanced apparatus available to the Industrial Market. Brad Williamson with Ferrara supplied a new Industrial Foam Pumper that was on its way to Huntsman and really put it through its paces. Pierce supplied an Industrial Foam Pumper and two Ariels for the students to train on. One of the students mentioned that no where else in the world can you go train and have access to such a wide variety of equipment get your hands on it and actually run it themselves. The diverse roster of instructors coming from all corners of Industry brings such a wide range of expertise to the school as well. This really gives the students a look at problem solving from a lot of different angles. From someone who experienced this for the first time this year I can see why students and instructors all look forward to this week every year. For more information please go to www.firedos.info.

the disasters they are all working to prevent. The Apparatus Class for the first time has been split into Apparatus I and Apparatus II. This according to class leader Austin Prather with Hayden & Co. allows the students with little or no experience to focus on the basics of pumping, foam operations and safety. This new format also allows the more experienced Fire Fighters to share their experience and learn more about the more advanced equipment and tactics. This year the foam proportioning rotations were able to operate equipment they already have in their plants and to take a look at some new technologies that are available. The FireDos being one of those products that is relatively new to the North American market and the standard for Industrial Foam Proportioning in Europe and
