What is Industrial Automation?

Automation is basically the delegation of human control function to technical equipment. It is the use of control systems such as computers, PLCs, Microcontrollers to control machinery and processes to reduce the need for human sensory and mental requirements as well. Industrial Automation i.e. to "Automate Industry" is the basic need of almost e ery type of manufacturing and production unit today. !ood" #e erage, Metal, Mining, Power, $e%tile, Petrochemical, Machine Manufacturing, Automobile etc are the few e%amples where we see the automation today.

Why We Need Industrial Automation?

&. $o increase producti ity '. $o reduce labor cost (. $o mitigate the effects of labor shortages ). $o reduce or remo e routine manual and clerical tas*s +. $o impro e wor*er safety ,. ,. $o impro e product quality -. $o reduce manufacturing lead time .. $o accomplish what cannot be done manually /. $o a oid the high cost of not automating

Scope for Automation Engineers

As per an analysis by 0epartment of 1mall 1cale Industrial 0e elopment, in I20IA only )3 to +3 percent industrial Plants are using one or another type of Automation. $here are ery less fully automated industries in I20IA. #ut to compete the real global needs, to produce the best quality products 4 to deli er the orders at right time with right cost companies are now automating there plants. $rend of automating an industrial plant is increasing at a rapid rate. 5ight now there is a big gap between the need and the real number of automation engineers Automation Growth Indian automation industry is estimated at about Rs 10,000-crore and is only growing at a fast pace as much as 25 per cent per annum. he total automation and control solutions mar!et in India "hich generated #$%1&52.' million as re(enues in 2011, is e)pected to generate #$%20**.& +illion in 2015, with -ompound .nnual /rowth Rate 0-./R1 of 11.& percent
