Judah at Jacob's deathbed

I have a few questions regarding what Jacob prophesies on his deathbed concerning his son Judah. (1) Ruben, Simeon, and Levi's sins are strongly condemned. Why not Judah's immorality? (2) How would you say the scepter continued in the tribe of Judah during its captivity? (3) I know the name "Shiloh" refers to Christ, but what is the origin and meaning of that name?

1) For one thing, this is not so much Jacob's speech, as it is prophetic utterance. The grace given to Judah outshines the tarnish of his sins, much as the grace given to David outshines his own violation of the 7th (and the 6th, 10th, 8th, etc., etc.)

commandment. This is what the Holy Spirit needs us to focus on; and Judah takes the position of leader in direct connection to those sins of the elder three, who were forced by their father to give place to him. All sin is potentially disqualifying from some privilege or right or reward. 2) You can say the principle of leadership remains, even if there is no individual who occupies the head. The scepter certainly didn't pass to any other during that time. And in the repatriation following the exile, there are no other recognizable tribes other than Judah. Yes, there are Jews who claim one tribe's heritage or another's--be it Levites like Zachariah, or Benjamites like Saul/Paul; but they've all been subsumed into the Jew/Judah identity, post-exile. One can ask the same question about the family of David, and one must rest in the same general idea. A "claim" to the throne may have belonged to Joseph, to his fathers, or to several persons in varying degrees in the generations. It is one thing to be able to trace your lineage to regal heritage. It is another to lay hold on it. And certainly there could be no resumption of the monarchy proper, if the Lord God did not ordain a prophet to proclaim the king--no one could rightly claim that position without extraordinary approval and obvious divine promotion. (Which things are as obviously present in Jesus of Nazareth--prophetic declaration and anointing through John the Baptist, and accompanying signs that God is with him). 3) I like the term "Peacemaker" as the best meaning for Shiloh.
