In 1989 SITA began designing, in close cooperation with the airline industry, a global baggage service system. This system would incorporate multi-system functionality into one system and thus simplify baggage service procedures. The end result of these efforts is SITA/IATA WorldTracer, a single, flexible and fully integrated modular baggage management system that went on-line in December 1991. Overview The Management Module is designed to be accessed via CRT, which provides full functionality on a real-time basis. In addition to the Advise if Hold, Unclaimed Baggage and Forwarding files available in Tracing, the Management Module offers the capability to create and manage Damage/Pilferage files and Found Property. Management files contain elements necessary for tracking costs and statistics, for example, amount claimed, amounts paid, baggage weights, fault station and terminal, reason for loss codes and reason for loss comments. The Management Module provides three-year file storage. This centralized storage of file information is available to all departments worldwide that require access (e.g. stations, central tracing, claims, customer relations) and effectively replaces the need for paper files The Management Module can generate messages automatically, at the subscribers choice, to other modules and industry systems, such as WorldTracer Tracing, Baggage Claims Investigation and PaxClaims system. Each Management Module station or subscriber has an Action File. An Action File is a "queuing mechanism that allows non-solicited messages to be received by a specified station or subscriber. Messages are stored on the Action File for up to seven days. The Action File is divided into several areas for different types of messages in order to increase agent efficiency. At stations where a Management Module subscriber handles other airlines, the subscriber only needs to indicate who is handled at which airports, which tracing system (if any) and, if required, a teletype address where copies of mishandling files should be sent for each handled airline. Once these parameters have been established, files for handled airlines at the specified airports will be accepted by WorldTracer, irrespective of whether or not the airlines are Management Module subscribers. Those handled airlines that are subscribers of the WorldTracer system have immediate access to the files that have been created on their behalf If an airlines handling agent is a Management Module subscriber, files can be created and updated on behalf of the handled carrier. The handler can perform tracing on these files or the function can be transferred, in the airline subscribers preferred timeframe, to the airlines office. Once a file is created in the Management Module for an airline subscriber, either party can retrieve and amend the file WorldTracer Baggage Management Product Snapshot 2009 SITA Proprietary Information Customer Only Page 2 of 5 The Management Module provides a number of reports with a variety of options that cover various aspects of baggage performance and are available on demand. As an option, selected reports can be generated automatically. Where appropriate, these reports can be requested for a day, a month or a date range. They can be requested for a station, a region or for the entire airline. Some are available in summary form or for a year-over-year comparison. The following reports are available and can be used to effectively improve the airlines operations and customer service. FRR - File Reference MAV - Average Cost Performance MBD - Baggage Delivery MCS - Payment/Cost MDP - Damage/Pilferage MFD - Flight Date MFF - Fault Flight MIP - Monthly Interline Proration MRC - Fault Station Percentage Mishandlings MRD - Type of Damage MRI - Total Inputs MRK/MFK - Fault Station Performance MRP - Fault Station Cost MSP - Station Performance MRS - Activity Status MSF - Fault Station Log MSL - Station Log MWF - Worst Flight
Found Property Register The Management Module offers a subscriber the ability to maintain a log of unchecked articles left in an airlines facility; for example, a book left in the seatback pocket or an aircraft or an umbrella left in the gate area.
Once entered, an agent can search for items in the Found Property Register using a variety of criteria including the name of the item and the date it was located. Items are retained in this log, at the subscribers choice, for between 30 and 90 days. Upon retirement from the Register, again at the subscribers option, items may be sent to the Action File, printed at a teletype address or simply erased.
On-Line HELP Extensive "HELP" is available in the WorldTracer Management Module. Detailed information on system transactions, elements and options can be requested on demand.
Baggage Delivery The Management Module includes a special system for managing delivery of recovered bags. This system allows you to print delivery orders for specific bags consigned to delivery companies and print reports of daily deliveries.
WorldTracer Baggage Management Product Snapshot 2009 SITA Proprietary Information Customer Only Page 3 of 5 Non Participant Tracing Option The WorldTracer Non-Participant Tracing option is a value-added service that allows handlers the option of creating five (5) day tracing files in WorldTracer for the non-participant airlines they handle.
Once this function has been selected by the handler, a non-participant airline at any station on that companys system can be designated to add tracing to the service they provide.
Activation is simply a matter of advising WorldTracer Customer Support of the desire to activate this feature and for the handling company to then add the non-participant airline to the station record for each non-participant airline to be provided this service.
Key Bennefits The Management Module provides varied operational information that can be used by management to help reduce baggage mishandlings and their associated costs. Some features are: Replacement of a "paper file" system Immediate worldwide access at any time to o Files created by your airline o Files created by a handling company o Files created by another company for an interline passenger Centralized, long term storage of files Interface with industry baggage systems Statistical information and reports defined by subscriber and generated automatically or on demand which o Assist in quality control and system supervision o Improved handling facilities for carriers o Measure staff productivity o Improve passenger service
