Intended Learning Outcomes: Learning outcomes: 1. Describe the major Leadership styles covered in the module and group dynamics 2. Evaluate the strengths and weakness of the Leadership styles as evidenced in contemporary settings 3. Reflect on their own Leaderships style and develop a personal plan to be abler to adapt to other styles as required 4. Employ the learning developed in the module to generate a change leadership plan to resolve the issue identified in the students selection of assignment for submission

Learning and Teaching methods

Keynote lectures will be used to explain to you, how current leaders have developed their own styles. Speakers will include people from industry; public sector; charitable sector; military; social entrepreneurs, sport and retail. Workshops will be based on the keynotes and use your workplace experience to underpin the sessions. You will be based in Action Learning Sets (ALS), each of which will comprise students who, collectively, will bring the 3 main work-place experiences to them. You will, by use the ALS system, learn from one anothers experiences. Online journals will allow you to share the work-place experiences, even when not attending University. Staff will always be available to answer queries and support you whenever required, though tutorials, email, Skype and telephone. you will be free to choose your preferred medium. You will be able to reflect on the mentoring/buddying activities that you will undertake with the Year 1 students. This process will allow you, the Year 5 students, on this module, to see how the leadership skills that you are developing, actually work in the context of the course, Life, as a whole and how they play a significant part in the lives and development of the Year 1 students. Another strength of this module is that the you can take forward your learning and development from the module into whichever pathway, ultimately, that you choose to follow e.g. healthcare, teaching, running your own business, the voluntary sector, politics etc. This module is one which, truly, is broadly applicable to any activity that Life (or life) has to offer you, our graduates. It will build confidence and capability in you, at a time when the world is crying out for leadership.

Assessment and Feedback: Summative assessment: Summative assessment will comprise a Case-study, which will allow you to choose 1 of a number of fixed options at the Module launch, based on your current year practice placement and consist of a critique of the Leadership style in the sector and lead to a set of recommendations for changes for the future. (LO 4) 1600 words - 80% of marks Broad assessment type: Written exams: Practical exams: Coursework: Formative assessment: Formative assessment will be the submission of the rationale/introduction for the chosen case study and feedback provided based on the submission. This will be required at the start of the New Year, to allow early guidance and advice to assist your maintaining a positive direction in the assignment. (LO 1, 2 & 3) 400 words 20% of marks Feedback: Feedback will be available from the formative assessment via a number of media: print, audio and video are such options. Summative feedback will be available in similar forms and will be by 20 working days from submission date.

Related Modules The following modules are related to this module: Level 4: Communication in Life Level 4: Team-working as a Life skill Level 5: Project Management Level 5: Managing Change The above modules will inform parts of the module Leadership in Life the module will add to the knowledge in the listed modules, to form a more holistic view. Communication; team-working; managing change and Project management all require qualities of Leadership, though not always the same style at all times. The bringing together of all these modules will expose you to many varieties of Leadership, from which you will develop your style, for your reasons.
