Innovation

Sr. Engineer Developed unique attachment method on shear pin that reduced concentrated bolt loads on Solid Rocket Motor Joint for SRALT program. Developed analysis procedure (hand calcs on Mathcad) to qualify the brake on the KC*** horizontal stabilizer for shock overload. This was a unique way of qualification without determining actual load. Analysis was approved by Boeing and Government. Successfully completed major redesign (C5 Wing Faring) in record time, leading team to produce (approx ***) drawings in 3 months rather than originally projected *** months. Saved customer (TVA) nearly $7 Million in engineering cost by developing streamlined data analysis method. Won NRC approval for procedure. Developed many innovative analysis (hand analysis and/or FEA) approach to many problems saving time and money; e.g. centenary equations for marine fuel and oil lines under shock response load. Patent on compliant gear design for Bell *** Tilt Rotor Helicopter (U.S. Patent 5,***,***), as well as an alternate design. FEA model (non-linear) and test had less than 2% difference. Submitted three patent disclosures (confidential) on F*** vectoring nozzle, including unique anchor system to spread loading among several rows of anchor lugs and a zero strain device for nozzle liners. Developed structural system to reverse thermal strain on *** gradient over spacing for F*** nozzle. Innovative design (proven by FEA model) which reduced parts on mechanism and increased ease of installation of rotor assembly for JSF rotor. Same idea was proven to engage all teeth on spin. Patent disclosure on Space Shuttle main engine nozzle using superconducting materials. Original idea, first in gas turbine engine industry to use axisymmetric/symmetric modeling for non-linear solutions, sharply improving efficiency of analysis for F*** liners for LCF. Solved longstanding design flaw in Trident missile launch tubes. Analysis of weld fabrication and hyper-elastic model electrical connections. Explicit to Implicit (FEA) analysis conversion. Developed design/analysis solution for sealing missile launch tube with leakage problems using hyper-elastic analysis. Corrected test methods and developed FEA model for the analysis (fatigue and crack propagation) of torque tube connection.
