UKRAINE'S TOP EXPORT AND IMPORTS Energy Supplies Makes Russia Largest among Ukrainian Trade Partners Major trade deficits with the United States and Russia in 2007 By Daniel Workman, Suite101.com, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, Apr 7, 2008 Rich in agricultural and industrial resources, this Southeastern European Republic [Ukraine] is encumbered by recent trade deficits with the United States and Russia. In 2007, Ukraine exported some US$47 billion worth of goods led by ferrous and non-ferrous metals, fuel and petroleum products, chemicals, machinery and transport equipment as well as food commodities. Topping the list of trade partners for Ukrainian exports were Russia (21.3% of total exports), Turkey (7.1%), Italy (6.4%) and the United States (4.1%). Ukrainian imports last year were valued at $54.3 billion. Leading suppliers of Ukrainian imports included Russia (28.2% of total imports), Germany (11.7%), Poland (7.6%), China (7%) and Turkmanistan (5.7%). Partly due to its dependence on Russian oil and gas exports, Ukraines overall trade deficit was $7.6 billion in 2007. The Ukrainian trade balance with Russia amounted to a $5.3 billion deficit. UKRAINE -U.S. TRADE A closer look at Ukraine trade statistics with the United States reveal that Ukraine experienced a $121 billion trade deficit with its American trade partner in 2007, a dramatic reversal from an $884 billion surplus in 2006. UKRAINIAN EXPORTS TO U.S. With a population of 47 million, Ukraine exported US$1.2 billion worth of merchandise to the United States in 2007, down 25.6% from 2006 and up 365% in 4 years.
