A brief look at whats ahead in the month to come:
Thursday 6th March: New Poetry and Fiction (Chapter Arts Centre, Cardiff), 7.30pm A special First Thursday event which also marks the opening of the XX Womens Writing Festival. The evening will feature Nia Davies, Zillah Bethel and Maureen Jivani reading from, and talking about, their work. Entry costs 2.50 and the evening will conclude with an open mic session. Tuesday 11th March: Research Seminar with Dr. Liz Edwards (Cardiff University), 5.30pm Aberystwyth Universitys Dr. Liz Edwards will be delivering a research seminar entitled In Summer, Autumn, Winter, Spring / The business of his life to sing: Richard Llwyd and the Labouring-Class Voice as part of Cardiff Universitys Centre for Editorial and Intertextual Research seminar programme at 5.30pm on Tuesday 11th March. Tuesday 11th March: An Evening with Peter Moore (Gladstones Library, Flintshire) 8pm Gladstone Librarys Writer in Residence Peter Moore will be discussing his new book Damn His Blood on Tuesday 11th March. Entry is 10 and includes a copy of the book. Visit Gladstones website for further details about this event. Wednesday 12th March: Poetry Kick with Martin Daws (Pontio Shop, Bangor) 11am 1pm Join Young Peoples Laureate of Wales, Martin Daws at a special drop-in session at Pontio Shop in Bangor from 11am 1pm. Wednesday 12th March: An Open Mic Extravaganza (Ye Olde Murenger House, Newport) 7.30pm 9pm Join the Red Poets, Bernard Pearson and Alan Roderick for this fundraising event which will help raise money to re-open the former Stow Hill Library in Newport. Thursday 13th March: Book Launch with Alan Bilton (Dylan Thomas Centre, Swansea) 7pm Alan Bilton and Cillan Press will be launching The Known and Unknown Sea at an evening in the Dylan Thomas Centre, Swansea. Rhian Edwards and Clare Potter will be reading from their work and answering questions as part of Cardiff Universitys creative writing seminar series. MA students from Cardiffs Creative Writing course will be reading from their own work during the evening. For more information please contact Richard Gwyn at gwyn@cardiff.ac.uk. This event is supported by Literature Wales. Thursday 20th March: Book Launch (Cardiff University) 6pm Gomer Press will be launching T. James Jones new Welsh-language adaptation of Under Milk Wood, Dan y Wenallt, in the Viriamu Jones Gallery at Cardiff University. The evening is organised in association with the School of Welsh at Cardiff University and RSVPs need to be sent to Nia Jenkins at Gomer Press by Wednesday 12th March 2014: nia@gomer.co.uk. Thursday 20th March: Poetry Night Featuring Jeremy Hooker (The Imperial Hotel, Merthyr Tydfil) 7.30pm Jeremy Hooker will be the special guest at an evening of poetry, featuring an open mic session at The Imperial Hotel in Merthyr Tydfil on Thursday 20th March. Entry is free and further details can be obtained from Gus Payne: gus.payne@merthyr.gov.uk Monday 24th Thursday 27th March: Dylan Live (Wrexham, Cardiff, Aberystwth and Newport) Performance times vary Dylan Live aims to provide a one hour bilingual performance which traces the origin of hip hop back to a young Welshmans visit to New York in 1952 through a fusion of jazz, beat poetry, hip hop and spoken word. Poets including Martin Daws, Aneirin Karadog and Zaru Jonson, will be taking part in the event. Tickets are free for students and 5 for non-students and more details, including the dates of this show, can be obtained through the Literature Wales Developing Dylan website. Friday 28th March: Book Launch with Maggie Harris and the Cellar Bards (Cellar Bar, Cardigan) 8pm Maggie Harris will be launching her new poetry collection Sixty Years of Loving (Cane Arrow Press) in an evening with the Cellar Bards in the Cellar Bar on Friday 28th March. Festivals and Workshops


Thu 6 Mar 14 - Sat 8 Mar 14: XX Womens Writing Festival 2014 (Chapter Arts Centre, Cardiff) Authors, poets and artists including A.L. Kennedy, Melissa Benn, Kathryn Simmonds, Kim Moore and Shani Rhys James will be taking part in the second XX Womens Writing Festival. All events will be held in Chapter Arts Centre, Cardiff and tickets start from 6. Details are available from the xxwales.wordpress.com blog or by following the festival on Twitter. Sunday 16th March: City Writing: Rivers and Waterways (Cardiff Story Museum) 12noon 4pm Participants on this course will have the opportunity to enjoy poetry, prose, walks and photos of Cardiff before writing their own work in response. Finished pieces will be shared with other participants and performed at the museum. Workshops can be booked individually or as a full series and beginners are welcome. Workshop cost 15 (12 for concessions) or 50 for the full series. Places can be reserved by emailing: citywritingcardiff@gmail.com or visiting the Cardiff Story Museum website.

The subject of the next Cinnamon Press mini writing competition is fast which should inspire submissions of flash fiction of up to 400 words in length. The competition closes on 30th April and more details are available through the website.
