A Voice of Reason in a System Gone Wrong

James W. Wyche

Iberia Parish Republican Executive Committee

Concerned Citizens for Freedom

Today it is quite apparent that we currently exist in a system

gone wrong. The system of which I speak is none other than the
Congress of the United States of America. Let me unequivocally
state that there is nothing wrong with the system as established
within the parameters of the Constitution of these United States.
What is wrong is the fact that too many of our elected officials
ignore how this wonderful document structures the powers of
government. Congress for the most part has rolled the constitution
into a pigskin shaped oval and punted it into oblivion. Our mighty
Constitution is absolutely central to our entire political and
governmental structure and provides the very backbone of all we do
in the name of the United States of America.

Let me give you a very brief history. The very first constitution
of these United States was called the Articles of Confederation and
Perpetual Union. It was drafted in June of 1776 and presented to
the 2nd Continental Congress for debate and ratification in
November of 1777. The ratification process was completed in March
of 1781. The Articles of Confederation were replaced by our current
Constitution in June of 1788, followed by the various 27
amendments offered and ratified by the ascribed process within this
document.

My friends, we have no one to blame but ourselves for allowing

those who we elected to represent us to by-pass the guidelines of
our Constitution. Somehow we have fallen into the trap of believing
that our individual voices no longer matter and are too weak to be
heard. Joined together we can make enough noise! Together we
will raise our voices so loud that our elected officials cannot help
but listen to us! Together we CAN hold them accountable.

1
The time to join our collective voices into a massive shout for
freedom begins today, a shout that will be heard in November of
2010. Concerned Citizens for Freedom humbly asks you to join your
voices with ours to make real changes that everyone can believe in
without sacrificing our freedom to do so!

The liberally controlled Congress is ramping up their massive

efforts to shove legislation down America’s throat without even
giving those of our elected representatives and senators time to
even read the bills. That in itself violates any sense of decorum and
is a slap in the face of those we elect who might be trying to do a
respectable job. So far, I can only tap one senator from Louisiana
who is doing a great job on our behalf and his name isn’t Mary!

Recently I wrote an op-ed piece for several newspapers across

the state stating that each bill introduced to Congress ought to be
scrutinized regarding its constitutionality. I have been pondering
why this hasn’t been done in the last 9 months or so, Nobel Peace
Prize notwithstanding! By the way, I heard President Obama
watched the LSU game last weekend and was awarded the Heisman
Trophy! All joking aside, the simple answer is: THE DEMOCRATS IN
CONGRESS WILL NOT ALLOW IT!

Representative John Shadegg of Arizona has been trying to get

a bill enacted for the last 15 years that would require legislators to
cite the constitutionality for any legislation they propose. This bill
is called the Enumerated Powers Act (HR450). This piece of
legislation now has 52 co-sponsors but there is little chance it will
even get to the House floor for debate. Democrats control Congress
now, but they haven’t controlled it for 15 years, so I can’t just
blame liberals for this oversight of common sense. No single party
is to blame.

However, such bills would not even be necessary if the

Democrats would simply follow their own rules! House Rule XIII (3)
(d)(1) says this:

“Each report of a committee on a public bill or a public joint

resolution shall contain the following: A statement citing the
specific powers granted to Congress in the Constitution to
enact the law proposed by the bill or joint resolution.”

2
This is found in the House Rules of Procedure that already
requires that every bill or resolution cite the Constitutional
authority for the proposed legislation. This rule is routinely
ignored. Democrats control the House Rules Committee and the
entire House of Representatives and they suspend this rule at every
turn… That is until 2010 when Conservatives regain control of the
House of Representatives and enforce this important House Rule.
What do you think?

Do you recall Nancy Pelosi standing on her high pedestal in

November of 2006 stating for all to hear, “This leadership Team will
create the most honest, most open, and most ethical Congress in
History?” Now, ignoring a House Rule of Procedure may seem to be
a minor thing to some, certainly to those in Congress who choose to
do the ignoring, but I suggest that it is indeed small when compared
to the double standard exercised by the Democrats controlling
Congress, not to mention the current administration. Just look at
the corruption Ms. Pelosi readily accepts and overtly protects from
her Democratic colleagues and the slime that cloaks most of
President Obama’s czars.

How quickly did she cite House rules to condemn

Representative Joe Wilson for emotionally shouting out to President
Obama, “You lie!” in Obama’s sales pitch on health care reform.
She and her minions of so-called ethics censured the man for
something I think he should have been awarded a Medal of Freedom
for saying, because he was correct! However, when Democrat Alan
Grayson uses obnoxious visual aids to claim that the Republican
health care plan calls on sick people to “Die quickly”, not one
Democrat found Grayson’s outright lie offensive. I did and I’m sick
and tired of their double standard!

Some of Madam Nancy’s other friends should be drummed out

of Congress for their mountainous corruption; people like the
mighty Charles Rangel who understated his income by 50% and
owes the IRS a caboodle of money. He just chairs the House Ways
and Means Committee. How about John Murtha whose abuse of
power is nothing short of astounding as his earmark list contains
huge rewards for the companies on his contribution list? What
about Maxine Waters who completely ignores the conflict of interest
rules by using her influence to set up meetings between the

3
Treasury Department and her buddies at One United Bank who
somehow receives 12.1 million in bailout funds. And the list goes on
and on. I am not even going to mention all of Obama’s czars and
the corruption with which they seem to be wrapped, lest this talk
become too negative.

Unfortunately, corruption is not limited to Democrats and this

is the simple and ugly truth. It just seems that they get away with
it more. Could this be because they control Congress therefore
somehow becoming bullet proof? Or could it be because the people
who elect them have become mesmerized by their elocution or
because the imagined crises they engineer overwhelm their
sensibilities? Politicians seem to say exactly what they think their
constituents want to hear, but their voting record is exactly
opposed to the stances they once, so smoothly espoused. Our own
Representative Charlie Melancon is a master at this!

He was opposed to abortion and then votes to allow it. He was

opposed to cap and trade and has changed feet on this subject so
many times he looks like a little child who needs to go to the
bathroom as he dances from foot to foot. He supports government
run health care but voted against Congress being required to
participate in the plan.

He bravely came to a town hall meeting once upon a time here

in the Berry and was soundly shredded for his voting record that
abandoned his eloquent promises, so much so that he didn’t have
the chutzpah to face any of us again during his August break.
Nowhere in the Third Congressional District did he hold another
Town hall Meeting. Did we bruise him so badly that he is now afraid
to face the music? Now I ask you in all sincerity, if Charlie refuses
to face his own constituents here in the Third Congressional District,
how in the world does he expect to represent all of Louisiana as a
U.S. Senator?

He is so solidly bought and paid for by his union cronies that

he is audacious enough to think he can do a better job than David
Vitter who fights for us here in Louisiana. I think it’s time to say
goodbye to Charlie Melancon once and for all! What do you think?

I don’t know in all certainty, but I seem to feel something

bigger than a groundswell of revolt happening across America these

4
days. Now, you’ll never hear much about it if you allow the
mainstream media to provide your only view of what’s happening in
the world. But you will hear a lot about President Obama receiving
the Nobel Peace Prize after being nominated some twelve days after
taking the oath for the highest office in the land. He had barely had
time to get moved into the White House, much less do anything to
deserve this award.

But, this just goes to show us how the liberals the world over
want the United States to fall into the status of a weak and corrupt
government whose citizens are either too stupid or too apathetic to
do anything about it. China and other nations who are our sworn
enemies now hold the mortgage on America because Congress rolls
over and plays dead every time our President creates some
imagined crisis that calls for selling our debt to any nation willing to
front the money. My father taught me a long time ago never to
draw to an inside straight. It is time for this outlandish spending
to come to a grinding halt! The constitution simply does not allow it
but Congress and our president with all his czars think it is an
outdated document that they choose to ignore if they can’t indeed
rewrite it.

We don’t need health care reform that threatens to bankrupt

us. We don’t need a cap and trade tax that will cripple our economy
and ruin our petroleum industry, among others. We don’t need
unions running our big businesses because the secret ballot
disallowing their takeovers is removed by hideous legislation the
liberals in Congress are trying to ram down our throats. We don’t
need Congress giving illegal immigrants legal status after only 24
hours without even a background check and then signing them up
for social security benefits. We don’t need Congress running the
automobile, Real Estate and banking industries, much less the
health care industry that accounts for roughly one sixth of our
economy. They can’t run Medicare, the postal service, or social
security without running these organizations into the ground. We
don’t need the current administration and Congress to run our lives,
do we? Nowhere in our constitution are they given that power.

However, this has happened before, you know, in frighteningly

similar ways. Maybe you can recall reading about young people
being brainwashed into singing ballads about their leaders in

5
countries like Germany, Russia, China and Southeast Asia and the
Middle East, among others whose leaders then committed atrocities
against their own citizens that sicken us to this day. The
groundswell I mentioned earlier is becoming something larger than
a simple groundswell. In fact, I predict it’ll be a tsunami that’ll
sweep some of the corruption from our Congress in 2010. At least it
will begin there and hopefully continue through 2012.

All of this could have been avoided had Congress simply

adhered to its own Rules of Procedure and applied the
constitutional smell test to the proposed bills now before our
Senate Committees. Almost without a doubt, most of this
legislation will come before the floor of the Senate where we hope
and pray it will be defeated before again going before the House of
Representatives for their approval, and we all know what’ll happen
then. All money bills must be passed by the House of
Representatives.

Defeatists would want to say that there is nothing we can do

about any of this. Liberals would gloat and agree as they smiled
their Cheshire-Cat smiles from the lofty perches of their elitist
branches from which they dictate the legislation that threatens to
do away with the America we once knew. However, there are a few
Patriots out there who are standing up and shouting a good solid
“NO!” That tsunami I mentioned is comprised of everyday citizens
just like you and me and I’m proud to be a part of it, aren’t you?

This wave is composed of Democrats and Independents and

Republicans alike who have the vision to see what is happening to
our country and are opposed to it. This tsunami has already lapped
at the halls of Congress on September 12th of this year as almost
two million people just like you and me, politely filled the streets of
Washington, D.C. and protested the tax and spend unconstitutional
policies of the current administration that undermine the economic
freedoms that have made this country the strongest in the world,
heretofore. A country that stands on shaky financials as a
foundation stands ready for implosion. A country that forgets God’s
Word stands ready for ruination.

However, this anti-spending, anti-big government wave has

only begun to grow. The White House’s initial response to the

6
streets being filled with peaceful protestors was that they weren’t
aware that anything was going on. When the numbers could no
longer be ignored lest they appear completely foolish and out of
touch, they began bashing protestors for being wrong-minded and
rabble rousers and dangerous right-wing radicals that are a threat
to our national security. Despite all their attempts at squashing and
discrediting us, the wave continues to grow and grow. Quietly and
solidly, opposition is growing and we are being heard! Hallelujah!

That is why we are here tonight. Concerned Citizens for

Freedom was formed to become a solid political voice in Louisiana’s
Third Congressional District. We do not care if your political party
begins with a “D” or an “I” or an “R”. What we do care about is
whether or not you love this Country. My question must now
become, “DO YOU LOVE THIS COUNTRY ENOUGH TO JOIN YOUR
VOICE WITH OURS?” You have been given a pamphlet already that
spells out our mission statement and goals.

Your next question might become , WHAT’S IN IT FOR ME?

HOW MUCH IS THIS GOING TO COST ME? The answer is it’ll cost you
nothing other than your energy and willingness to make an effort to
join your voices with ours. Now, if you care to make a contribution
to cover our printing and paper and the costs of distributing our
flyers and literature, we’ll gladly accept your generosity, but we are
not going to ask you to do so. That part is entirely up to you. We
welcome and solicit your assistance in sharing this information as
well.

Now, to address the WIFM thing… the what’s in it for me that

drives us, I say this: WHAT IS IN IT FOR ALL OF US IS A GENUINE
EFFORT TO STOP THE MADNESS IN WASHINGTON, D.C. WE CAN
BECOME A VOICE THAT WILL REACH OUT TO FELLOW LOUISIANIANS
STATEWIDE WHO WILL ELECT PEOPLE THAT TRULY DO REPRESENT
OUR VIEWS AND TENETS. WE CAN AND WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE
THAT WILL ADD TO THE TIDAL WAVE OF REVOLT STARTED BY THE
TEA PARTIES OF APRIL 15TH, 2009 AND CONTINUE TO ROLL FORTH
TOWARD ALL CANDIDATES WHO DARE TO REPRESENT PEOPLE WHO
VOW TO HOLD THEM ACCOUNTABLE AND WHO PROMISE TO REMOVE

7
THOSE WHO BECOME INFECTED BY THE CORRUPTION THAT MAKES
THE H1N1 VIRUS PALE IN COMPARISON.

My friends, our time is now, and all we ask tonight is that each
of you speak sincerely to ten people you think you can influence to
talk to ten more and then they can reach ten more. In a very short
time, we can add much more than a ripple to this wonderful wave
for freedom and independence from those who seek to squash our
constitution, and our way of life in America. Your voice is vastly
important, not just to Concerned Citizens for Freedom, but also to
become a shout that will make history in the upcoming elections.
Won’t you join us? Thanks!
