LORD, saying, ho shall !e first to go up for us against the "anaanites to fight against them#$ % &nd the LORD said, Judah shall go up' Indeed I ha(e deli(ered the land into his hand'$ ) *o Judah said to *imeon his !rother, "ome up with me to my allotted territory, that we may fight against the "anaanites+ and I will likewise go with you to your allotted territory'$ &nd *imeon went with him' , -hen Judah went up, and the LORD deli(ered the "anaanites and the .eri//ites into their hand+ and they killed ten thousand men at 0e/ek' 1 &nd they found &doni20e/ek in 0e/ek, and fought against him+ and they defeated the "anaanites and the .eri//ites' 3 -hen &doni20e/ek fled, and they pursued him and caught him and cut off his thum!s and !ig toes' 4 &nd &doni20e/ek said, *e(enty kings with their thum!s and !ig toes cut off used to gather scraps under my ta!le+ as I ha(e done, so 5od has repaid me'$ -hen they !rought him to Jerusalem, and there he died' 6 Now the children of Judah fought against Jerusalem and took it+ they struck it with the edge of the sword and set the city on fire' 7 &nd afterward the children of Judah went down to fight against the "anaanites who dwelt in the mountains, in the *outh, and in the lowland' 18 -hen Judah went against the "anaanites who dwelt in 9e!ron' :Now the name of 9e!ron was formerly ;ir<ath &r!a'= &nd they killed *heshai, &himan, and -almai' 11 >rom there they went against the inha!itants of De!ir' :-he name of De!ir was formerly ;ir<ath *epher'= 1% -hen "ale! said, hoe(er attacks ;ir<ath *epher and takes it, to him I will gi(e my daughter &chsah as wife'$ 1) &nd Othniel the son of ;ena/, "ale!?s younger !rother, took it+ so he ga(e him his daughter &chsah as wife' 1, Now it happened, when she came to him, that she urged him to ask her father for a field' &nd she dismounted from her donkey, and "ale! said to her, hat do you wish#$ 11 *o she said to him, 5i(e me a !lessing+ since you ha(e gi(en me land in the *outh, gi(e me also springs of water'$ &nd "ale! ga(e her the upper springs and the lower springs' 13 Now the children of the ;enite, @oses? father2in2law, went up from the "ity of .alms with the children of Judah into the ilderness of Judah, which lies in the *outh near &rad+ and they went and dwelt among the people' 14 &nd Judah went with his !rother *imeon, and they attacked the "anaanites who inha!ited Aephath, and utterly destroyed it' *o the name of the city was called 9ormah' 16 &lso Judah took 5a/a with its territory, &shkelon with its territory, and Bkron with its territory' 17 *o the LORD was with Judah' &nd they dro(e out the mountaineers, !ut they could not dri(e out the inha!itants of the lowland, !ecause they had chariots of iron' %8 &nd they ga(e 9e!ron to "ale!, as @oses had said' -hen he eCpelled from there the three sons of &nak' %1 0ut the children of 0en<amin did not dri(e out the Je!usites who inha!ited Jerusalem+ so the Je!usites dwell with the children of 0en<amin in Jerusalem to this day' %% &nd the house of Joseph also went up against 0ethel, and the LORD was with them' %) *o the house of Joseph sent men to spy out 0ethel' :-he name of the city was formerly Lu/'= %, &nd when 1
