Healthy Habit Stories for Children and Families

The following books were carefully reviewed and selected by a panel of child nutrition professionals from Marin County, CA. These books were selected based on several factors including: accuracy and appropriateness of information; availability; the use of positive nutrition and physical activity messages; and a focus on supporting Healthy Habits in children. Note: A number of popular childrens books which were not included on this list take a more heavy handed approach toward nutrition with a focus on weight control and good/bad foods. Recent findings by child nutrition professionals show that using a more positive approach that inspires the development of healthy dietary and activity habits rather than focusing on weight loss, and involving the entire family in making healthful changes, will improve a child's self-esteem and be less likely to lead to negative eating issues.
