TABLE TENNIS RULES SECTION I: GENERAL RULES AND REGULATIONS A. PERSONAL AND TEAM CONDUCT 1. Participants are required to represent themselves and their respective schools with respect and dignity. 2. Any team or individual involved in destructive or negative conduct at PostSecondary Games 2012 events or venues including hotels will !e e"ected #rom the tournament at the discretion o# the Advisory $ommittee. Spirit %eposits may also !e #or#eited. &. 'or a list o# all on court violations leading to suspension or disquali#ication please re#er to the Registration Pa !age. (. )he Advisory $ommittee reserves the right to disquali#y any team !ased on the !ehaviour o# any given team mem!er o# that particular team. B. C"EC#$IN PROCEDURES 1. *ach mem!er o# the team is required to hand in provided lanyards with their student card and Spirit %eposit $oupon to o##icials at the score ta!le prior to the game. STARTING TIME O- T"E GAMES 1. All teams are required to !e at their games #ive minutes prior to start time. 2. All games will start on time. &. A late team will !e given a grace period o# #ive +,- minutes past the scheduled start time which will !e deducted #rom the total playing time. (. .# a team #ails to meet the minimum num!er o# players as per sport speci#ic rules +!elow- a#ter the grace period the team will !e required to de#ault and a win will !e awarded to the opposing team. ,. .# !oth teams are late !oth will de#ault and no points will !e awarded. /. )eams de#aulting a game #or any reason will have hal# their Spirit %eposit #or#eited. A. SCORING 1. A match is played !est 2 o# & games. 'or each game the #irst player to reach 21 points wins that game however a game must !e won !y at least a two point margin. 2. A point is scored a#ter each !all is put into play (. 0nless the rally is a let a player shall score a point1 a- i# his opponent #ails to ma2e a good service3 !- i# his opponent #ails to ma2e a good return3 c- i# a#ter he has made a good service or a good return the !all touches anything other than the net assem!ly !e#ore !eing struc2 !y his opponent3 d- i# the !all passes !eyond his end line without touching his court a#ter !eing struc2 !y his opponent3 e- i# his opponent o!structs the !all3 #- i# his opponent stri2es the !all twice successively3 g- i# his opponent or anything his opponent wears or carries moves the playing sur#ace3 h- i# his opponent or anything his opponent wears or carries touches the net assem!ly3 i- i# his opponent4s #ree hand touches the playing sur#ace3 "- i# a dou!les opponent stri2es the !all out o# the sequence esta!lished !y the #irst server and #irst receiver ,. )he edges o# the ta!le are part o# the legal ta!le sur#ace !ut not the sides. B. -LO3 O- T"E MATC" 1. *ach player serves #ive points in a row and then switch server. 2. 5owever i# a score o# 2020 is reached in any game then each server serves only one point and then the server is switched until one player wins !y two points. &. A#ter each game the players switch side o# the ta!le. .n the #inal game +ie &rd gamethe players switch side again a#ter either player reaches , points. C. LEGAL SER4ICE 1. )he !all must rest on an open hand palm. )hen it must !e tossed up at least / inches and struc2 so the !all #irst !ounces on the server4s side and then the opponent4s side. 2. .# the serve is legal e6cept that it touches the net it is called a let ser&e. 7et serves are not scored and are re-served.

A LET 1. )he rally shall !e a let a- i# in service the !all in passing over or around the net assem!ly touches it provided the service is otherwise good or the !all is o!structed !y the receiver3 !- i# the service is delivered when the receiving player or pair is not ready provided that the receiver does not attempts to stri2e the !all3 c- i# #ailure to ma2e a good service or a good return or otherwise to comply with the 7aws is due to a distur!ance outside the control o# the player3 d- i# play is interrupted !y the umpire or assistant umpire.
