XI. Lawyers Duties to the Public & the Legal System (2% to 4%) A. Voluntary Pro Bono Service every lawyer has a professional responsibility to provide legal services to those unable to pay. 1. 50 Hours per Year a lawyer should aspire to render at least 50 hours of pro bono public legal services per year. B. Serving in Legal Services Organization a lawyer may serve as a director, officer or member of a legal services organization, apart from the law firm in which the lawyer practices, notwithstanding that the organization serves persons having interests adverse to a client of the lawyer. 1. Lawyer Shall Not Knowingly Participate in Decision or Action the lawyer, however, shall not knowingly participate in a decision or action of the organization: ! Incompatible with Duty of Loyalty if participating in the decision or action would be incompatible with the lawyer's obligations to a client under the Duty of Loyalty;

OR ! Material Adverse Effect where the decision or action could have a material adverse effect on the representation of a client of the organization whose interests are adverse to a client of the lawyer. C. Political Contributions to Obtain Engagements or Appointments a lawyer or law firm shall not accept a government legal engagement or an appointment by a judge if the lawyer or law firm makes a political contribution or solicits political contributions for the purpose of obtaining or being considered for that type of legal engagement or appointment. 1. Prohibited Contributions prohibited contributions are for the purpose of obtaining or being considered for a government legal engagement or appointment by a judge if, but for the desire to be considered for the legal engagement or appointment, the lawyer or law firm would not have made or solicited the contributions. D. Assisting Judicial Misconduct knowingly assisting a judge or judicial officer in conduct that is a violation of the ABA Model Code of Judicial Conduct.
