HSC Data Analysis

Use the data for teacher learning ...

Smart use of data- making the difference

3 ways to get better results
1. Start from a higher point (Sack half the class??) - operate as a selective school 2. Make more of a difference from where you start

Without data, I'm just another person with an opinion.

(streaming )

3. Intervene early and in a targeted way- Where the students are at? How do I make the difference for these particular kids? Learning gain ie use smart data? RAP analysis? Inquiry cycles? Formative processes...

We often dont collect enough data, or the right data, to make an informed decision or to ask the most appropriate questions.

Know thy impact!

Possible DeCourcy reflection questions:

1. What is the data telling you about collective/individual student learning gain in your class/KLA? 2. What does the data tell you about learning gain in your subject/KLA compared to other subjects/KLAs? 3. Keeping in mind Teacher makes the difference, what did you (the teacher) do well? How do you know? 4. Keeping in mind Teacher makes the difference, what can you improve upon? How do you know? 5. After reflecting on the data, what questions does the data prompt for you as a HSC teacher?

Purpose of the data: teachers reflect on their practice and look to ask questions to inform and improve.
