Breast Cancer In Women

Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer in women, developing in the tissue of the breast. The most usual areas for the cancer to develop in are the lining of the milk ducts, and in the cells of the ducts. Breast cancer in the milk ducts is known as ductal carcinoma and in the ducts as lobular carcinoma. Over 45,500 women are diagnosed with breast cancer annually, with 1 in 9 women developing breast cancer in their lifetime. Since it is such a prevalent form of the disease, there has been lots of cancer research into breast cancer to find out more about it. In women, the causes of breast cancer are varied. Age is also a risk factor in breast cancer as with many other forms of the disease, with most diagnoses being made in women over the age of 50. In fact 80% of breast cancers occur in women over the age of 50. Other risk factors include: smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, poor diet and over exposure to certain chemicals. There are some signs and symptoms of breast cancer that can indicate the disease. As with all cancers, spotting the signs early and getting them investigated is the best course of action. Signs include: a breast lump, a swelling or lump in the armpit, eczema-like rash on the nipple, nipple
