EMBRYOLOGY: ODONTOGENESIS

ODONTOGENESIS ENAMEL ORGAN

• Origin and tissue formation of teeth o Cap shaped enamel organ

ORIGIN OF TEEHT: NEURAL CREST CELLS

• ECTODERM TOOTH GERM

o Enamel o Collective term for enamel organ, dental papilla and

dental follicle
• ECTOMESENCHYME
o Established during cap stage
o Dentin

o Pulp
INNER ENAMEL EPITHELIUM
o Cementum
o A layer of cuboidal cells found at the convexity of
o Periodontal ligament enamel organ

o Alveolar bone o Directly responsible for tooth formation

DEVELOPMENT OF TOOTH

o 6 – 6 ½ weeks OUTER ENAMEL EPITHELIUM

o Horse-shoe shaped structure o Cells found at the convexity

o Ectodermal thickening

ENAMEL PULP
DENTAL LAMINA

o Stellate epithelium
o Tooth buds located

o Marks the beginning of formation of tooth

AMELOBLAST
o Divided into:
o Formative cells of enamel
o LINGUAL DENTAL LAMINA

 Deciduous, accessional teeth

STELLATE RETICULUM
o LATERAL VESTIBULAR LAMINA
o Responsible for producing space for the crown
 Succedaneous
o Acts as shock-absorber for protection

o Provides nutrients
*Teeth is unique as it is the only one who needs to undergo
morphologic and physiologic stages and it needs to erupt for
it to function
ENAMEL KNOT

o Condensation of cells
TOOTH BUD
o Maintains the concavity
o First sign of enamel organ formation
o Found during late cap stage

o Germinal center for the growth and development of

CAP STAGE (2 OTHER LAYERS) tooth

o DENTAL PAPPILA

o DENTAL FOLLICLE FIBROBLAST

o Formative cell of pulp

ODONTOBLAST

o Formative cell of dentin

3 DISTINCT FORMATIVE CELLS

o INNER CELL

o CEMENTOBLAST – cementum

o MIDDLE CELL

o FIBROBLAST – periodontal ligament

o OUTER CELL

o OSTEOBLAST – alveolar bone
