Compression fittings shall be filled with an oxide inhibiting compound prior to despatch from the manufacturer with the ends temporarily protected. The quantity of oxide inhibiting compound shall be sufficient to ensure the integrity of the fitting. Where grease is used as an oxide inhibiting compound, it shall be of a neutral soft type with a high melting point and shall be in accordance with the requirements of Section 11 of this Specification.
9.5 Installation Criteria

The manufacturer shall provide comprehensive instructions in a suitable format covering the selection and installation of the fitting, including the installation- torque of any bolt, compression die sizes and direction of compression. Installation instructions shall include directions for the use of any additional materials to the fittings, including the selection of such materials and the conductor preparation. Joints and .connectors intended for the restoration of electrical and the mechanical properties of a conductor, shall have clearly defined manufacturer's instructions as to the extent of the damage which they are intended to repair. After installation, the resistance any joint or connector shall not exceed 75 percent of the resistance of equivalent conductor. The Contractor shall keep a record of the joints and connectors used showing the location as well as the resistance of the joint.
9.6 9.6.1 Quality Control General

All fittings used for this project shall be type tested. Type test report shall be submitted for review of the Owner/Engineer. Sample and routine tests shall be undertaken as appropriate on the conductor and insulator fittings in accordance with the requirements on this Specification and IEC 61284. Reference should also be made to clause 8.6.1 of this Specification for details of the test requirements for complete insulator sets. The Contractor shall submit details of his test programme and procedures. This is a Hold Point. Details of type and sample tests are summarised in Table 9.1. Cost of type, sample and routine tests shall be deemed to be included in Contract price. Three samples of each fitting shall be subjected to the type tests. One sample of each fitting, subjected to the visual examination, dilnensional, materials and finish and corona (if appropriate) type tests, shall be retained by the manufacturer for comparison with the production fittings.
9.6.2 Suspension Clamps

Vertical damage and failure load type tests shall be undertaken in accordance with clause 11.4.1 Method B ofIEC 61284. Acceptance criteria: After the completion of the damage load test, the clamp shall be stripped down and visually inspected for crack(s) and deformation(s). The clamp shall be free from crack(s) and any deformation that would affect its functional operation. Conductor slip type tests shall be undertaken generally in accordance with clause 11.4.2 of IEC 61284, except as the following details: 1. 2. Suspension clamps shall be fitted with armour rods; A minimum slip load of equivalent to 5 percent of the conductor's minimum rated strength (whichever is greater) and shall be applied and held constant for 60 s.
