Inputs:
The inputs used by the UPS package tracking system are following: Scan able bar-coded label which contains all the information about send, the destination and when the package should arrive. Dispatchers used to download the data at centres. Handheld computer called Delivery Information acquisition Device (DIAD) which is used by the drivers to download their routes.

Processing:
The process of the package tracking system starts with a scannable barcoded label which includes information about the sender, the destination and when the package should arrive. The customers can download and print their own labels by accessing the website of UPS. Before the package picked up, the information on label is then transmitted to one of the UPSs computers centres and then sent to the distribution centre nearest to final destination. Dispatchers at centres download the data and information of the label by using specialised software to create the most efficient delivery route. Then DIAD is used to download the route by drivers. Then, it is transmitted to UPS computer network for storage and processing, finally the information can be accessed worldwide.

Output:
Through automated package tracking system, UPS have following outputs: It can monitor and re-route packages Status of any package can be checked from the desktop computers by customer representatives. Information can also be accessed by UPS customers by using UPSs website on their computers or wireless devices. Tracking packages, checking delivery routes, calculating shipping rates can also be done by using UPS website.

Many technologies are used by UPS which includes bar-code labels, dispatchers, DIAD and bar code devices. The customer satisfaction is very important in their business strategy as they are providing each and every information to satisfy their customers on the website. If these systems are not available then the customers would not be satisfied by their services which lead them to face loss because in absence of these information systems the customers cannot get proper information about their packages.
