Here comes Célia Mara's fourth album. She picked up flower-flavoured harmonies out of the
Brazilian diversity, grabbed some hard plastic tunes in the industrial world, reflected about
emancipation movements, packed all into a catchy box ... and Santa Rebeldia was ready to
materialize: “Brash, confident and assured" headlines the ***review in UK’s Songlines.

International syncretism, part of the Austro-Brazilian „Bastardista“ line.

Santa Rebeldia is bastardista’s logical evolution, bastard sound out of the Brazilian Diaspora, an
intercontinental journey, ironical, sensual, rebellious and fresh. Célia Mara disrespectfully surfs
between musical styles and rhythms, plays effortlessly with the infinite reservoir of Latino-music, joins
easily Retro-Brazil, Tango and traditional Afro-Brazilian grooves, mixes Nova MPB and Samba with
Funk, Reggae, Balkan-folk, Glamour Rock and HipHop. Finally, she shakes all together into a
Viennese electronic concept.
The songs are bringing forward the discussion about identity, which already determined bastardista.
Songs talking about freedom, migration, culture, ecological and social issues and… love.
Célia Mara sings in portuguese, some spanish, english and latino-deutsch.
The result are 10 tracks, easy going, groovy, to dance & to listen to…
Once again, Célia Mara created her own space, her own style, her own music in the space inbetween
times, cultures, concepts...

Célia Mara’s charismatic voice, her strong compositions, the eclectic, but typically Brazilian mixture
and the edgy electro-arrangements made her latest album bastardista storm the European
Worldmusic charts. It has been considered “one of the best new Brazilian records to come around
2005” (Global Rhythm USA), “a 100% legitimate hit” – (4**** review in Songlines). It had top rankings
in the Greek & the Russian charts, sensational press-reviews in various countries, was awarded 2006
with “COPA DA CULTURA” by the Brazilian Ministry of Culture...

Célia Mara band performed during the last years in prestigious clubs and concert halls between
London, Vienna, Moscow, Prag and Sofia, at important festivals in Central and Northern Europe,
Tunisia, Italy, Spain and Russia. Célia presented her songs on “fightin‘ for a better world”-mega open
airs in Berlin, on top of “Trio Eletrico‘s” during carnival in Brazil and even in the famous Vienna Opera
House, at Jazzfest Wien...
For spontaneous live sessions, Bastard Sound joined as great artists as Joe Zawinul, Olodum, Think
of One, Magou & Dakar Transit or, in 2009, “La Banda di Piazza Caricamento” with Célia Mara.

2. Ilegal na Geladeira: “Illegal in the freezer“ Have mercy for those who never have mercy! Immigration laws
often bring to an end the illusion of an open world, of universal creativity and poetry. A funky samba, where Célia
speaks out about being a stranger, reflecting on the question of borders.

identity in Brazil. Taking over the Globo network! An electronic Tango, smooth, erotic.
4. A flor do dendê: Saudade, banzo, romantic, wonderful Bahia! Retro-Brasil in an smooth bossa nova getting
surprisingly wild! Everybody’s looking for the Axé, the divine energy, singing, dancing, partying… But who left the

5. Dá-me um beijo: My love, I came to see you, to kiss you, to conquer you… to give me up in the waves of your
kisses… Infinite love, purest sensuality, claiming kisses, glamorous latin lover… an authentical ballad with a little
portion of kitsch and so much truth…
6. Alma reciclada: Tell me Mama, who stole the oceans, who plays with hurricanes, who abuses of little girls and
kills the kids in the streets of Rio? Who is controlling over-production and fertility? Please resolve it, Mama…Célia
is looking for answers facing a world in destruction. A groovin’ samba electro-rock.
7. AnaMaria: Ana Maria, what is that world we’re living in? Is’nt it one world? Your infinite purety is my consolation
in front of all that war. A Ska-Reggae, sung in English and Portuguese, looking for identity in a world of
oppression, of war, offering poetry, groove… and a very cool solo by Alexander Wladigeroff.
8. Fabrica de armas: The weapon factory never stopps… producing arms for any purpose, featuring paramilitary
violence, mostly to silence civil society. An electro forro-baião reflecting questions of structural violence - easy
grooves inviting to a macabre dance.
9. Du und Ich: When the day comes up, we’ll fly together into the light. But there are still too many rules, war is’nt
over yet… Let’s dream and get more real love - for all of us! Naive, innocent… smoothly grooving, a Reggae with
a little Glamour-Rock feeling, with Célia’s most delicious german voice ever.
10. Nanâ Burukê: She is the goddess of the deepness of the sea, of the sweet water and the swamps; she
protects women, created men and women to help each other, crusaded for humanity without weapons… Almost
traditional, an oration followed by a powerful Afoxé. Strong chorus.

Santa Rebeldia is Célia Mara fourth‘ album, produced and published by Vienna based artist-label globalista
records / Globalista: no border media.
The album has been recorded between Vienna (A), Barcelona (ES) and Salvador(BR), mixed in Salvador at WR-
Studios by Duda Silveira, mastered in Austria (A) by Martin Scheer.
All Santa Rebeldia songs were composed, written and arranged by Célia Mara.
Musical co-producer and co-arranger is her keyboarder Dieter Stemmer.
Very special guest is „miss mestiço“, Spanish singer Amparo Sanchez, Amparanoia’s frontlady, who shares her
power (and voice) with Célia in Matriaméricas - the song dedicated to the union of South America.
The trumpetist Alexander Wladigeroff, one of Bulgarias most important jazz artists, gives Santa Rebeldia a
flavour of Balkan brass, Swantje Lamprecht joins in with a jazzy sax, the e-bass was played by Viennas
Jazzvirtuoso Uwe Urbanovsky, some drums by Latin-drummer Fernando Paiva, all keyboards by Dieter
Stemmer, the acoustic guitar by Célia Mara… Some extra-Brazilian touch comes through some bass-lines by
Alfredo Moura (Grammy winner with Sergio Mendes), the sound design was made by Gilberto Gil‘s studio-
enginer Duda Silveira in Brazil, in the WR Studios in Salvador.
Creative director of the production was once again Silvia Jura Santangelo in strong collaboration with Célia
Mara. The pictures were made by photographer Georg Schlosser, graphic design by ange - Angelika Reichert.
And - of course… flowers are from Pedra Azul, Célia’s home town, photographed by Lôdonio Figuereido.
