Criteria: Awareness of conventions of layout and page design; Awareness of need for variety in fonts and text size;

t size; Accurate use of language and register; Appropriate use of ICT for the task set; Appropriate integration of illustration and text; Framing a shot, using a variety of shot distances as appropriate; Shooting material appropriate to the task set; selecting mise en scene including colour, figure, lighting, objects and setting; Manipulating photographs as appropriate, including cropping and resizing. Follow up questions are vital! 1. How effectively do you think the poster uses traditional poster layout convention? Where do you think they have been used most effectively? So theyve been used well, is there any way you feel they could be developed? Example, or how doesnt it? It was a common view that the poster uses layout conventions quite effectively, with the protagonist as the main subject of the frame, and bold titles. Ideas for development centered around text, suggesting that perhaps a quote from the film would help it look more original, and the actors names could be in a smaller size to make it look more professional. 2. What could be done, in your view, that would make the poster challenge industry conventions? And how might you develop them? The most common feature respondents pointed out for development were the bottom credits, suggesting that I should change the positioning, as it looks a bit awkward when the bottom of the glasses are covered by text. It was also suggested that I could challenge industry conventions by using different coloured font. 3. How do you think font has been used effectively? Where do you think it could be developed? Font was seen as effective because it is clear and easily readable, and the colour helps balance the whiteness of the sofa. It was, however, suggested that there could be a better range of different font and colours. 4. What about text size, do you think its been used effectively? Where do you think its been used best? How do you think it either challenges or develops poster conventions? Text size was seen as well used, as you can easily identify the title because it stands out. It was stated that text size challenged conventions by the positioning of the names, however there could be a few more fonts used.

5. Do you think language has been used well? Where do you think it conforms to conventions, and how do you think they could be changed to challenge them? Language was said to be effective, as it makes the film sound interesting, as well as the use of reviews, and a catchphrase which intrigue and inform the viewer. 6. Do you think there was an appropriate use of ICT? Why? How do you think it could be developed or challenged to be more innovative and effective? The most common feature of ICT that was thought of as effective was the text, and the credits at the bottom. Although, ICT couldve been used better, such as experimenting with fonts. 7. How do you think image has been integrated with text in an effective way? How do you think it could be done in a way that challenges usual poster conventions? The respondents though the image has been integrated with the text well as there is not much overlapping between the two, and the text fits around the image well. Again, they suggested experimenting with the bottom credits. 8. Do you think the image has been framed well? Why? How do you think it could challenges, or conform to industry conventions? What makes you think this? Yes, the protagonist remains the main subject while making room for the main titles. Nevertheless, it was suggested that text could be developed, such as having text either side. 9. Do you think this works well from a mise-en-scene perspective? Where do you think mise-en-scene is used well? Mise-en-scene was seen as fairly effective. The biggests issues were that lighting could have been more considered, and that the mise-en-scene does not seem to fit with the title Trailer Trash, as a set of expectations are not met, however this may be an attempt at being subversive.

10. Do you think the image shows a good use of lighting and colour? How do you think they could be developed to challenge poster conventions? The use of lighting was thought of a good, with one person stating that they like the basic use of colour, which in an area dominated by overly vibrant posters, is a breath of fresh air. Although, the lighting could challenge conventions by being more even and considered.
