Below is a summary of the contents of (evirahasya, which will give an idea of the scope of this type of work. #here is little philosophy here) practically the entire contents of the work deals with mantra, yantra, pu*a & sadhana of the different gods & goddesses discussed. +ahasya means secret & the work does cover most of the topics a practitioner would need to know. #hese include purashcarana, which is the preparatory work before pu*a proper can start. #his is very arduous, involving the recitation of mantra & a ritual which spans many hours. #he (evirahasya, however, introduces some short"cuts for the ,aula initiate. #he panchangas (five limbs) in this work give essential pu*a info- for a sadhaka or sadhvini & give intriguing insights into various aspects of devata worshipped by the .indu tantrikas. (An eg, translated on this site, is the Bala /anchanga.) Chapter 1:: #his deals with the characteristics of guru & pupil, with the planetary positions & times of initiation, & with the attendant dis"0ualifications on both pupils & gurus. $t also deals with the se0uence of initiation, the purification of the disciple, & the initiation of shaktis. Chapter 24: #his chapter deals with the purification of 5C"9aktis, who are ?ati (actress), ,apaliki(bearing skulls), 1esya (whore), +a*aki (washer"woman), ?apitangana (barber; s wife), Brahmini, 9udra"kanya (9udra;s daughter), 3opala"kanyaka (:owherd; s daughter) & Malakara"kanya ((aughter of a 3arland"Maker). (evata of this rite to follow is called "aram2i'a". #he best time for the rite is at midnight. #he pu*a se0uence is given, & it is stated that the girl should be placed on the left of sadhaka in a 9ri :akra. 9he has to have dishevelled hair, be free from shame, & adorned with *ewels. #he various mantras of each of these 5C",umaris are given. (etails are given of the left handed chakra of eight or eleven couples & the mantras to be used. Chapter 29: #his gives various materials of which a rosary may be made, as also the way knots & so on are to be tied. +osary made of human skulls is described, as well as rosaries made from various trees, tulasi rosaries, crystal, rudraksha, *ewels, gold, & rosaries made from lotus seeds & human teeth. #he last, & the first, are to receive specific kinds of purification. Chapter 2;: #he purification of yantras & the various materials from which they are made are discussed in detail. >antras are spoken of as 5<"fold as being made from gold, silver, copper, crystal, birch, bone, hide & 1isnu"stone. #he mantras for purifying these 5<"materials are given, & rites performed at night are discussed at the end of the chapter.
