Homemade 4x4 Power Rack

This is the homemade 4x4 power rack I made for less than $80.

Supplies List and lengths cut: 4- 4x4x6: No cuts - x4x8: ! cut in half for the "ottom supports# ! cut for !- x4x! : cut for x4x&0% top front# and pieces 4$%

x4x'&% for left and ri(ht side

4- T-"rackets: mounted from the "ottom into the 4x4)s - 6in '*4in "lack iron pipe

4- '*4in "lack iron pipe end caps - 'ft '*4in "lack iron pipe +crews were !* in to (o from t-"rackets to wood and 'in from x4 to 4x4. The screws don)t actuall, hold wei(ht so I feel it is safe for now. The holes in the 4x4)s were drilled with a ! !*8in spade "it. The pipe is actuall, !in thick -outside dimension the '*4in is the inside.. /oles started at !8 inches from the floor and continued e0er, 'in on center.

1, wife su((ested usin( the 23 "ar for a pull up "ar. It 4ust happened to "e exactl, the si5e I needed.

I ha0e tested the stren(th of the pipe and it can easil, hold 4 0l"s plus m, &0l"s. The t-"rackets reall, help make it sta"le. If ,ou were standin( in the rack facin( like for s6uats# there are two x4)s one at the "ottom and ft up and one at the top. 7lso all corners are %wo0en% to help lock e0er,thin( out. +upport from front to "ack is from the t-"races and an extension of the footer. 7ll exercises that can "e done in a normal power rack can "e done here.

In re(ards to the stren(th of the wood structure# I feel confident that if I can "uild a (a5e"o with 4x4)s for support and it can hold the wei(ht of the roof)s shin(les -80l"s a pack for 0s6 ft. it will "e a"le to hold an,thin( I can lift.

The house had sa((ed prett, "adl, and we lifted it multiple inches ri(ht in the center# so much that dr,wall cracked and old doors were out of line. I can)t ima(ine the t,pe of wei(ht that we put on that 6x6 "efore we put up the supports.% 99999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999 6ft is 4ust tall enou(h for me to walk into without hittin( m, head. I)m &)!!%. 1, "ar is 48% "etween the collars and the plates are at least another -'% outside of them. I made the spacin( "etween the upri(hts 4$%. +o the collars fit 4ust outside the frame. The 4&l"s plates don)t e0en come close# a"out '% for each side. If I were to shift left or ri(ht then I (uess the, would come into pla,# "ut when s6uattin( I tr, keepin( it as strai(ht up and down as possi"le. I did not want to pa, that much for a lat pull down# so I 4ust added one to the power rack. I "ou(ht some hea0, dut, pulle,s - of them. from =owes rated at 4 0l"s and some '*8% ca"le rated a"o0e 800l"s and some clasps and "oltin(. >i((ed it up and now I ha0e a detacha"le ca"le pull down machine on m, power rack.

I don)t feel it needs to "e anchored to the floor. It doesn)t shift or slide like ,ou mi(ht think. If there was one thin( that I mi(ht ha0e done to help e0en more with that would ha0e "een to cut a piece of '*4% pl,wood to match the shape of the "ase. That wa, ", me standin( on it would further hold it from slidin( while re-rackin(. ?ut I ha0e ne0er had pro"lems with it. I used a spade "it and a hand held drill to cut the holes# "ut if I had a drill press it would ha0e made it much easier.
