8100 Mobile Device Test System

UMTS CALL RELIABILITY MODULE

Delivers quantitative real-world analysis of call establishment and maintenance to identify top performing devices and so enable the highest End User Quality of Experience
APPLICATIONS
Mobile Device Benchmarking 3G and 2G Call Reliability Mobile Device Performance Analysis 3G Mobility Testing 3G to 2G IRAT Mobility Testing End User and Network KPI Analysis The UMTS Call Reliability module decreases the time and cost required to verify two of the most fundamental and important capabilities of mobile devices Voice and Data calls. Optimal characterization of voice and data call performance requires extensive testing under real-world conditions, with automation to reduce overall test time. The ability to model network conditions, including multiple 2G and 3G cells, is combined with industry-leading channel emulation to help deliver accurate and realistic performance benchmarking. UMTS Call Reliability is a key module of Spirents 8100 Mobile Device Test System which offers an open, scalable multi-purpose test system that is expandable beyond initial testing needs. The module meets a range of high-value mobile device testing requirements. It makes use of highly capable components, including an SR3420 Network Emulator with network-grade protocol stacks to enable delivery of high quality devices to end users.

BENEFITS

REAL-WORLD NETWORK AND CHANNEL EMULATION The UMTS Call Reliability module is equipped with Spirents SR3420 Network Emulator which provides the ability to simulate realnetwork conditions. SR3420 offers a wide range of configurable network parameter options from SIBs to Physical Channels to help match real-network settings. SIB Parameters such as Cell Quality Level Qqualminand Handover Reporting Range can be all configured to test device performance under various network scenarios. With SR3420s ability to configure core network parameters, the RNC and the Node B, UCR provides complete repeatable and reliable testing of mobile device call reliability performance with real-network emulation capability. The UMTS Call Reliability module is also equipped with Spirents industry leading SR5500 Wireless Channel Emulator which helps generate realistic fading conditions for device testing. The SR5500 offers the flexibility to choose from a suite of pre-programmed 3GPP-recommended models or to develop custom fading profiles to reflect real-world fading scenarios.

ADDRESSING INDUSTRY CHALLENGES IN THE LAB Mobile operators look to customer satisfaction as a key contributor to revenue growth. However, industry research shows that high return levels for some device models have a significant negative impact on customer satisfaction, in addition to the direct costs involved. Call reliability issues with particular models of device can be a significant contributor to high return levels. Operators have traditionally relied on field testing to discover and debug device call performance issues. Consistently detecting and reproducing call performance issues using field testing can be challenging and time-consuming and may not lead to discovery of all problems before product release. Lab testing, however, can tremendously reduce overall device evaluation time and cost. Prescreening device call performance under simulated network conditions before field testing helps to capture and resolve problems in a very time- and cost-effective manner. By offering a highly configurable and repeatable test environment to reproduce real-world conditions, lab testing adds consistency to the discovery and resolution of issues. This helps to improve customer satisfaction by reducing call reliability problems experienced by the end user.
