Curves and Surfaces

M41-719-QNT -001

For inspection of free form surfaces this packages provides several features. Unknown surfaces can be digitized, using a DCC Coordinate Measuring Machine with either a scanning or a touch trigger probe system. On the part surface (patch) several probing areas can be defined, within which the CMM probes in predefined, user-selectable patterns. The measuring points can be processed in QUINDOS to create either NC files according DIN 66 025, or into other CAD formats. The NC files can be directly loaded into DCC milling machine controllers.

CAD-generated surfaces can be compared with the measured part surface. The definition of the surface must be in VDAFS format. The following VDAFS data types are currently supported : CIRCLE, SURF, FACE, CONS, TOP and GROUP . 3D surfaces and standard geometries can be combined. The probing points on the surface can be created by : Manual probing with the CMM Clicking on the surface Automatic point generation based on the CAD information.

The VDAFS interface (DIN 66 301) can be used to exchange data, in particular data describing curves and free form surfaces, between different CAD/CAQ/CAM systems. The file is in a sequential, readable format. VDAFS elements can be converted into QUINDOS elements for further processing. The VDAFS interface is part of the option Curves and Surfa c e s.

CMM Error Simulation

M41-291 -QNT-001

The measuring errors of a CMM are described in the ISO standard 10 360: Performance of coordinate measuring machines. Usually the volumetric length measuring error E and the volumetric probing error R have to be specified by the CMM manufacturer. These errors are valid for clearly defined test procedures. At the inspection of real parts the errors are different. That is because often probe extensions are used with an increased measuring error. Furthermore the probing error at a datum measurement can lead to a much larger error on a feature a certain distance away from that datum. The package CMM Error Simulation works in the following way: First the probing error R is entered, either the value from the data sheet or, if extensions are used, the R-value obtained from a R -test with the extension. Then an existing QUINDOS part program is executed up to a hundred times, with the real CMM switched off. At every run the virtual CMM generates measuring points, distributed around the nominal points. The range of those points depends on the R value entered. QUINDOS takes this points as if they would come from a real CMM and calculates all the features. Finally the range of the result for each feature is evaluated statistically. By repeating the procedure, using R -values of different CMMs, the operator can analyze which CMM is capable of inspecting a certain workpiece. Furthermore the effects on modifications of the measuring strategy (i.e. using shorter extensions, increase the number of probing points at critical datums etc.) can immediately be evaluated.

Example: Range of concentricity result, 50 virtual measuring runs CMM A: R = 1m

A A CMM B: R = 3m

CMM Test with Ball Plate

M41-180-QNT-001

The performance of a CMM can be checked in regular intervals by using a calibrated ball plate. The pro gram CMM Test with Ball Plate was developed according to the guidelines specified by the German working group berwachung von Dreikoordinatenmessgerten mit Kugelplatte. It is certified by the PTB (Physikalisch Technische Bundesanstalt - national bureau of standards) in Germany. The evaluations are according to VDI/VDE 2617, page 5. The program is in three parts: 1. Test of the probing system, using a ring gauge and a reference sphere. The result of this test is the probing uncertainty and the repeatability of the probe system of the CMM. 2. Measuring and evaluating a ball plate. This test evaluates the geometric deviations of the CMM in comparison to international length standards. 3. Graphic and numeric output of the measurement results according to the VDI/VDE 2617 guideline, page 5.

Note: This option requires a calibrated ball plate.

Gear

M41-725-QNT-001

The option Gear extends the capability of a high precision CMM, enabling it to measure parts usually inspected on gear testers.

Helical Gears
The moving path, probing points and scan lines are automatically generated in QUINDOS according to the nominal gear parameters (No of teeth, module etc.). Pitch and runout can be measured by self-centering, scanning or single point probing. The quality class of the gear is determined based on the DIN, ISO or AGMA quality charts. The individual pitch error as well as the cumulative pitch error, with or without eccentricity, can also be evaluated. Gear inspection using QUINDOS does not require a rotary table. This means: - higher accuracy (only 3 axes instead of 4) - significantly higher throughput and CMM utilization using pallet measurement - easy setting up, no centering required - significantly reduced inspection costs

The GEAR package allows individual definition of tolerance zones as well as modifications of the profile and the flank. Various evaluation formats can be selected so the results can be compared with those of conventional gear testers.

Serrated Gears
Included is the inspection of Serrated Gears, both internal and external, with straight and involute profile, according to DIN 5481. The gearing can be evaluated with and without eccentricity. Generation of moving path and probing points. Evaluation of runout and pitch Size over pins

Feature Based Inspection

M41-050-QNT-001

The QUINDOS option Feature Based Inspection allows the CMM operator to select features (diameters, true positions etc.) in any order out of a Master program by simply clicking icons on the screen. QUINDOS knows automatically what to measure in order to arrive at the required result. Only the selected features are calculated and evaluated. QUINDOS computes the shortest travel path between the individual features, ensuring maximum machine utilization and significant cost savings in a very short time. This package is useful for the inspection of complex parts, such as cylinder heads or engine blocks. In particular if the same component has to be measured at different tooling steps. From one master program, containing all elements, the sub programs for each tooling step are easily created.

Only one master program, which contains all of the part features, needs to be maintained. Results from different CMMs can be compared, because the same points and probing strategies are used (this is particularly important if results from purchaser and supplier must be compared). An essential requirement for ISO 9000!

Measurement of Part Pallets

M41-041 -QNT -001

With the option Measurement of Part Pallets any number of parts can be mounted on a fixture and automatically inspected in one set up. The parts can be of the same or of different type. The order of the measurements can be chosen freely.

With QUINDOS even complex geome tries such as Spiral Bevel Gears, Screw Compressors or Hob Cutters can be inspected without a rotary table and therefor on a pallet. Fixtures and pallets according to customer specifications can be provided by Brown & Sharpe GmbH.

By utilizing the machine during manless shifts the CMM throughput and efficiency can be drastically increased. This leads to a significant reduction in inspection costs.

Statistics

M41-729-QNT -001

The Statistics package allows the operator to analyze statistics on-line. The interactive graphical user interface provides easy access to th e statistic data. All evaluations relevant to production process control, such as computing of statistical values like x, ?, cpk etc., confidence levels, histograms, handling of outliers and statistic charts are provided. Furthermore the package includes: various distribution tests, machine capability analysis, trend analysis and the computation of quality control charts. All evaluations are activated by simple mouse clicks.

In case the measuring data shall be computed by other statistical software, the relevant data can be converted and exported in following formats: 1. QSSTAT from QDAS GmbH, Germany 2. FORD data format guidelines, old and new version, for further processing in QSSTAT. 3. CIMMY / QSWE and MESAS Format 4. Montaplast, Germany 5. Excello, Germany Further data formats can be integrated on request.

Gauging of Points and Elements

M41-739-QNT-001 This packages provides several best-fit programs for a variety of applications. One of them is the 2D best-fit of hole patterns. The number of holes is not limited, and up to 2 datums can be considered for the best-fit. The best-fit minimizes the distance of the measured hole to the circle enveloping the nominal position. The diameter of the enveloping circle is determined by the positional tolerance, plus any MMC on the hole. The position of the hole pattern before and after fitting is plotted.

Conventional mechanical gauges consist of a collection of geometric elements in the form of a negative of the part to be inspected. Such a gauge can be simulated using theoretical geometric elements. The theoretical gauge is used to simulate the pairing. The result is the same as with a mechanical gauge, except that if the part is out of tolerance, the points out of tolerance are marked.

When inspecting gothic and elliptical profiles or homo -kinetic joints (also called ConstantVelocity Joints), this option can be used to find the center coordinates and contact points of a nominal circle, which is centered in the measured profile. Furthermore the maximum clearance between circle and profile is evaluated.
