Create your own mini Herb Garden with a few recycled fence palings, a tomato stake and just 3 ONE+ tools. Now you can grow your own Rosemary, climbing beans, oregano or whatever your taste buds desire. The beauty of this project is there are no rules, if it looks right, it probably is right, the size may also be altered to suit your requirements. Rough sawn hardwood will vary in thickness and may have splits, cracks or nail holes but that simply adds to the rustic look. TIP: Wearing gloves will keep the splinters at bay.

STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS

1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6.

Side Pannels To attach the side slats to the legs, pre-drill a 4mm clearance hole 35mm in from each end. Position the top slat over the leg with an overhang of 20mm and flush at the top of the leg. Drill a 3mm pilot hole into the leg and fix in position with two screws per slat. Attach the middle and lower slats with a space of 18mm. TIP: An 18mm wide scrap makes the perfect spacer. Repeat this process for both side panels. Assembly With the end frames turned upside down, attach the top end slat followed by the middle then finally the bottom slat. Note the position of the bottom slat support. The spacing can be simply maintained by aligning the edges with those of the side slats. Remember this is rough sawn hardwood so close enough will be good enough in this case!

Assembly The bottom slats are simple placed in position and just sit on top of the bottom end slats, it is not necessary to screw these in place but like I said earlier there are no rules, so if you want to screw them in then who am I to say not too. Just space them evenly to allow for drainage.

Sanding The one drawback of using dry old hardwood is splinters and dry old hardwood splinters can hurt, take it from me, because I know! The ONE+ multitool is the perfect solution for removing all the sharp edges. Dont go overboard with the sanding, just limit it to the sharp edges and corners otherwise you may lose the rustic appeal. Complete All done and ready for your choice of herbs / colour, just remember to give them plenty of sun and well watered and youll be well on your way to cooking up a storm.

Screw Alternatives I chose to use 25mm galvanised exterior universal screws to add to the rustic look. You may decide to use a screw designed for interior use allowing the natural rusting process take place.
