English summary:

Baja Cairo University Racing Team, a team from faculty of Engineering-Cairo University. One of more than 160 international university racing teams which international competition in a series event (In Kansas from the 22nd to 25th of May & Texas from the 24th to 27th of April). BCURT is the first team ever to represent Egypt at this international competition. Each team independently designs, analyzes and develops technological solutions by making data-driven decisions throughout the design, manufacturing and testing of a single seat, off-road race vehicle able to conquer all types of terrain (dirt, mud, snow, ice, rocks,..). The main objective in Baja Cairo University Racing Team (BCURT) is to bridge the gap between engineering education and the practical Industry by training students in a reallife project. Also aims to benefit university members by experiencing the managerial, financial and logistical problems and satisfaction of working on an engineering project. Baja also provides a platform for students to apply and combine the knowledge they have gained in their studies as well as an opportunity to work with other people that have a variety of skill sets. At each competition members are given the opportunity to interact with engineers from around the world. In addition to this experience, Baja maintains a strong alumni connection to all its past members which gives current members an unparalleled opportunity to communicate with the alumni on issues relating to Baja, as well as engineering opportunities relating to the members area of expertise. Having a team representing Faculty of Engineering-Cairo University for the first time in the second ranking competition is a very good opportunity for our university to show up in international competitions. The Competition prepares the students to be entrepreneurs as it considers producing the vehicle as a business which they have to market to different markets and CEOs. This way we believe students can benefit their society and adds to its economy. The participation in this competition will encourage students from our university and other universities to take part in this event. Moreover it opens the way for an integrated industry in our country.

B.3. Problem Definition:

The rapid changes in technology, information and economy call for the new competence such as skills of critical thinking, problem solving, decision making, team working, etc. How to equip students with the requirements for graduate competence has become one of the most crucial responsibilities in education. We aim to contribute to efforts exerted to solve this problem and invest in a new generation of entrepreneur graduates who can make decisions and chase opportunities in the Egyptian market. Also, learning how to be a good team worker is a crucial skill to make successful startups of many projects. Knowing these root causes of the problems we can think how dealing with issues can affect our economy and society. This can help in decreasing unemployment percentage which reaches about 13.3 %. Starting up new projects and opening the door for new integrated industries in Egypt can attract investments which increase the production and incomes helping in minimizing poverty and unemployment levels. We

B.4. Technology description and applications: 1. Suspension system design. As we design an off-road vehicle able to race through all terrain types, we are concerned with a reliable and versatile suspension system and of small weight. This is achieved using the ultra-lightweight air shock absorbers. The spring effect is obtained through air not coil springs. Depending on the application, air shocks can offer a number of distinct advantages over their coil spring counterparts. While single rate coil springs offer a linear curve that can work extremely well when used in conjunction with today's advanced linkage designs, air springs give a progressive spring rate, offer infinite adjustability, and can provide significant weight savings.

This implies also a new technology: Rebound damping controls the rate at which the shock returns after it has been compressed. The proper rebound setting is a personal preference, and changes with rider weight, riding style and conditions. A rule of thumb is that rebound should be as fast as possible without kicking back or feeling bouncy.
