ICON Original Craftsman Series Shelters

Craftsman Style architecture came out of the 19th century English arts and crafts movement, which emphasized the importance of craftsmanship and high standards of design. ICON responded to a request, by an architectural firm in southern California, to design a series of shelters that matched the Craftsman style architecture. This new series of shelters is the response to that request. ICON Original Craftsman Series Shelters

CRAFTSMAN HEXAGONS
The photo at left is the 20 Craftsman Hexagon, also illustrated in the drawing at right. The Craftsman Hexagons are available in 1 increments between 16 and 72. They have a 5:12 roof pitch, and can be accessorized with many column and ornament options. An open frame cupola connects directly to the frame. Double and triple tiers are also available.

CRAFTSMAN SQUARES
The Craftsman Squares are available in 1 increments between 12 and 60. They have a 6:12 roof pitch, and can be accessorized with many column and ornamentation options. The peak is finished with a finial peak cap. Single tiers are shown. Double and triple tiers are also available.

CRAFTSMAN GABLE-END RECTANGLES

The Craftsman Gable-End Rectangles are available in spans from 16 to 52. The roof pitch is 4:12, but can be modified up to 12:12. Slatted arbor structures can easily be incorporated into these designs.

Curved Arbors
Arbor is an horticultural term used to describe regular intervals in the planting of trees. In this case, we use the terms to describe open-slatted structures that simulate the partial coverage provided by trees. Curved Arbors by ICON are designed in circles or arc segments, generally surrounding a central courtyard. They are available with columns front and back, or cantilevered from one set of columns. When specifying a curved arbor, please indicate the radii of both the front and rear columns, the type of slat profile (see below) and the slat overhang beyond the curved support.

The slat profiles shown here are available in a variety of tube sizes. The curved slats are available in 2x2, 2x3, 2x4, 2x6, 3x3 and 4x4. Straight slats are available in the same sizes for curved, with the addition of 2x8, 2x10 and 2x12.

Straight Arbors
Straight arbor widths and lengths are per your design. The maximum bay spacing is 20-0. Specify the width between column centers, the slat overhang beyond the support beams, style and size of slats, and the height below the support beam. Columns can be selected from the optional columns shown on page 20, or they can be custom designed to meet your design motif. Use Straight Arbors to cover a garden planting, walkway or sitting area.

Some custom shelters have their root in the design of our standard products. The shelter, at left in Alsip, Illinois, was derived from our Newport Gazebo (right, and pgs 10-11). It measures 20 wide by 60 long, with a 10:12 roof pitch and the ornamentation shown below.

Officials in the Village of West Haverstraw, NY wanted to do something special in the improvements to Pecks Pond Park. A standard gabled rectangle shelter and an entrance arch were fitted with the laser-cut steel park emblems shown above. The shelter, a standard gabled rectangle also has banded, stepped columns and standing seam roofing.

The Carousel
Ten-sided and twelve-sided open structures in two tiers provide ample space for a variety of uses, including the protection of carousel rides from the elements. Ten-sided structures are available in 46, 54, 62 & 70. The twelve-sided buildings come in 76, 84, 92, 100 & 108 diameters.

Bridges

ICON Bridges
Pedestrian Bridges by ICON are available in two styles. The straight, simple Warren Truss bridges are formed with two parallel cord trusses from which the floor framing is suspended. The Steel Girder bridges have large, heavy girder beams that support the floor framing from beneath. Floor decking is either treated dimensional lumber, recycled Polymer planking or cast-in-place concrete. Two models are shown below. Most bridge design and engineering is done as needed to the design specification requirements per the individual project.

Athletic Field Shelters

Athletic Field Shelters

Keeping fans and participants shaded at outdoor athletic events is critical in areas where the summer sun is intense. ICON provides custom structures to fit your athletic field. Bleacher covers shade fans sitting on the bleachers watching the event, and dugout covers provide shade for athletes not in the game. For use at baseball diamonds, softball diamonds, soccer fields, field hockey, basketball courts, shuffleboard courts, bocce courts and play areas.

Large monoslope shelters designed to keep the sun off fans sitting in the bleachers. Dress up the center of the building with the team logo, sponsor identification or the field name. Scoring booth sits under the center building. All structures designed to fit behind the backstop.

DugOuts
Dugout shelters are available in three different styles, cantilevered (MC), center post (MT) or corner post (MP). Roof depths are 7, 8 and 10. Bay sizes are typically 10, but can be extended up to 20. Options include tabs for chain link fence attachment, side and back wall windscreens, perforated steel screens or metal panels. Benches of wood or recycled plastic are available.

Vented & Clerestory Roofs

Most ICON Industry Standard Shelters are available in multiple roof tier configurations. Two tiers are available on all shelters. Three tiers are available on shelters over 36. The photos below show the difference between the vented roof option and the clerestory roof option. Clerestory offers the room to install ornamental rails.

Optional Columns
Oversized and custom welded columns add visual weight to the overall look of a shelter. The illustration at right gives some of the options available. Large square, round and rectangular columns are available with or without decorative bands. Also available are columns with stepped bases and multiple vertical posts. Column heights can be extended to raise the height of a shelter, but may incur CC5 additional charges for added material. Surface Mounted Columns

The standard base connection for ICON shelters is to bury the base plate 6 below finished concrete. Optional surface mounting is available with base covers for an additional charge. Base covers are 1/4 x 3/16 steel angle in two halves riveted together and screwed to the column.

Options & Accessories

Roof Deck Systems

Three roof deck options shown below are available for all ICON shelters. Metal roofing options are standard multi-rib, mega-rib, or standing seam. All metal roof panels are Galvalume substrate with Kynar 500 paint finish (see next page).

Pre-Cut 24 Ga. Steel Panels

24-gauge galvalume roof panel with a Kynar 500 paint finish. The ribs are 1-3/16" high and 12" on center. Roof panel coverage is 36" wide; all angles are factory cut. The ribs run with the slope of the building for proper drainage. Matching trim in 26 gauge is provided.

Pre-Cut Structural Insul. Panels

4-5/8" thick structural insulated panel system that is factory-assembled, factory laminated and cut to fit on the structure. The panel is made up of one skin of 7/16" OSB, 3-1/2" EPS foam core, and a 5/8" skin of T1-11 siding. EPS core is a min. of 0.95 pcf density. SIPs have a valid ICC ES report.

2x6 Tongue and Groove

2x6 tongue and groove wood roof deck, Western Lodgepole Pine, kiln dried, #2 or better, one edge V'd, one edge grooved. Fascia is cedar plank. T&G can be finished with 30 year asphalt shingles, cedar shingles, pre-cut metal roofing (multi-rib or mega-rib) or premium standing seam metal roofing.

Weathervanes
Several elements are available for weathervanes to adorn the peak of a cupola. Standard weathervanes are shown below. These are moderately priced units, and can be easily added to any cupola. Steel framing inside the cupola provides attachment. Optional custom weathervanes, like the one shown at right, are available by special order. This particular unit features a laser-cut banner with computer-cut sign vinyl logos on each side, and brass counter weight. The shaft runs through to the base of the cupola.

1. The steel is shot-blasted to the specification of SSPC-SP10 (shot-blasted to near white condition), this will remove all oil residue, mill scale, weld spatter and slag. 2. The steel is washed and zinc phostphated in an eight stage electro deposition (E-coat) pretreatment process. 3. It is immersed in an electro-statically applied liquid epoxy and coated to a uniform 0.7-0.9 mils. This E-coat totally encapsulates the part, preventing rusting. 4. A double coat of TGIC polyester powder is applied, one coat of color and one clear coating for a final finish that is 8-12 mils thick. 5. All materials are inspected to meet 100% coating, proper cure, film thickness and impact resistance. 6. Color to be selected from the manufacturer's standard color chart.
