LANGUAGE AND CROSS CULTURE FACILITATOR Reports to: Coordinates with: Language and Culture Coordinator All training

staff, P&T staff, and the Admin Office

Position summary: The Language and Cross Culture Facilitator (LCF) is responsible for all siSwati language training for the Peace Corps Trainees. The LCF is also responsible for a minimal part of the culture and cross culture training for the Peace Corps Trainees during the Pre Service Time. Planning Plans language and cross-cultural sessions in accordance with the scheme of work and prepares all necessary materials, visuals, activities and work sheets under the supervision of the LCC. Adjusts scheme of work as necessary and reports changes to the LCC. Plans and facilitates cross-cultural sessions and activities with Trainees. Submits all lesson plans and language materials to the LCC. Collaborates with other LCFs by sharing materials as appropriate. Language Teaching Teaches local language using the language book; teaches within the planned scheme of work. Offers suggestions for additional assistance to those experiencing difficulty. Makes appropriate changes/adaptations to the Language Competencies according to Trainees progress. Ensures that all PCTs complete all scheduled language activities. Encourages maximum use of local language among the PCTs. Provides linguistic and cultural information and insight to Trainees outside of scheduled sessions as necessary and appropriate. Reports Trainee absences, lateness or other problems, to the LCC and Training Manager. Evaluates the success of the lesson, documents comments, ideas and suggestions to assist with future implementation. Guides and supports Trainees in becoming independent and self-motivated language learners. Cross-cultural Facilitation Integrates cultural knowledge, skills and awareness into language and cross-cultural training sessions. Serves as a cultural information resource for Trainees. Is available outside classroom hours to assist with cross-cultural learning as necessary and appropriate. Trainees Assessment Is an active participant in Trainees formal assessment and feedback interviews Provides feedback related to PST competencies/objectives. Documents Trainees behavior. Informs Training Manager about Trainees behavior. If certified, conducts LPI tests twice during the PST. Host Family Stay Monitors relations between Trainee and the Host Family during PST. 1

Resolves situations with home stay families, eliciting advice as necessary from the LCC or Training Manager.

Integration with Technical Training Assists Program Managers and Technical Coordinators in designing and implementing integration of Language and Technical lessons and activities. Safety and Security Responsibilities Provides safety and security support to PC Trainees and staff and assists in MS270 compliance. Monitors safety and security environment with host families and host communities. Documents and reports to Training Manager any safety and security concerns or incidents involving Trainee, host family or community member with regards to alcohol use or culturally inappropriate behavior that places Trainees at risk. Facilitates safety and security sessions with Trainees. Acts as warden for each consolidation group. These duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: o Awareness and understanding of all directives of Peace Corps regarding Safety and Security. o Awareness and understanding of emergency procedures. o Awareness and understanding of the PST Emergency Action Plan. o Awareness and understanding of Wardens roles and responsibilities.
