BIODEGRADABLE PLASTICS

LET US GIVE BACK TO NATURE

NORMAL PLASTIC - A FEW FACTS

Normal Plastic bags do not biodegrade, they photo degrade, which means they slowly break down into smaller and smaller bits that can contaminate soil and waterways. The world's consumption of plastic bags has been increasing daily. One million bags are used per minute. Average use of a plastic bag is 20 minutes. But it takes up to 1000 years to decay. The plastic waste generated DAILY in each city like Bangalore, Hyderabad and Chennai etc is 200 to 250 Tons. Considering 50% as BAGS waste, we can cover daily 4 sq. km. approximately. In 2002, Australians used 6.9 billion bags. Thats enough to circle the globe 42.5 times. Carelessly thrown more and more layers of plastics do not allow water to percolate in to sand. Water table goes down. Earth becomes hotter. Our country will soon face acute water shortage. The available drinking water may increase water borne diseases. 90% of the floating marine litter is plastic. 46000 pcs of plastic found in 1 sq. mile of ocean. Toxic plastic dust spread in food chain now found in human blood. Maximum 7% of total plastic waste only is recycled.

RECYCLING IS NOT ALWAYS THE ANSWER

Recycling can be an excellent way of handling waste. Not always. Few reasons :

Recycling does not occur until somebody actually uses the material. About 93% of plastic not recycled. Usage of recycled plastic increases health concerns. Most of the plastics collected are not properly cleaned before being recycled. Large quantities of water required for cleaning the used plastic. There is no standard for cleaning and drying the used plastic. Consistent and reliable supply of clean plastic is not possible. Toxic chemicals and perfumes are added to cover up bad smell. The recycled product has to be broken down by machines, transported away and then re-machined all of which takes up a lot of energy and leaves carbon footprint. Recycled plastics are still floating around the world. Even after recycling 2 or 3 times it is not given back to nature.

BIODEGRADABLE PLASTIC

World over there are certain process /methodology /inventions /claims about the availability of starch/cellulose/lactic acid based compositions with polyethylene to make a degradable plastic. We found to our dismay that Neither or None of them could effectively break down the polymer matrix and make the polyethylene completely biodegrade in the soil environment. Disintegration of our Biodegradable Plastic is completely biological.

It breaks down into quantities of water, inorganic compounds, biomass and carbon dioxide just like cellulose, wood and paper do.
All the ingredients of our plastic products are FOOD GRADE and NONTOXIC in nature. No Toxic residues are left behind. That means zero chances of harming the environment. For more information logon to www.biotecbags.com

COST OF PROCESSING BIODEGRADABLE PLASTIC

ENZYME TECHNOLOGY:

Our technology is the only less cost technology which makes the normal HDPE bag biodegradable. The cost of our process is extremely competitive as compared to any other technology prevalent in the world today being the added cost is only the enzyme processing cost. The strength of our biodegradable bag is extremely high as our technology accepts only virgin HDPE and does not permit mixing of fillers (a cheap material) and reprocessed polymers which is used by most of the bag manufacturers to reduce the cost. Our enzyme based biodegradable plastic bag conforms the American and European Standards of Biodegradability. That means in lab conditions it biodegrades in 180 days. In normal environment conditions it may take a maximum of 360 days. or durable as polymer (HDPE plastic) bags. Also starch based products may comprise of genetically modified crops (GM Crops). Corn-starch bags are very expensive as they are not made of normal HDPE. Oxo-degradable bags: It will break into bits and pieces in few years but it does not biodegrade. Toxic residue will be left behind.

CORN/ STARCH TECHNOLOGY: These bags are not as strong

To conclude..

As BIOTEC BAGS branded biodegradable plastic bags are having all the advantages of normal plastic bags such as convenient, easy to carry, used for wet things, cheap, reusable, energy saving, etc., and also completely biodegrades in soil less than one year; it is the only best alternate to normal plastic and paper bags.
