The Indian School of Design and Innovation (ISDI), which opens its
doors to students in July 2013, is committed to a new model of design

FOUNDATION FIRST YEAR STUDIES
The curriculum ofers a series of approaches to design and enables them to
envision paths beyond the connes of a single discipline. Whether a student
is interested in a traditional disciplinary area, a combination of creative and
academic elds, or an exploratory approach to design, the rst-year curriculum
is designed to accommodate a variety of study paths.
The curriculum constitutes a common experience for all incoming
ISDI students, with the same set of rst-year course requirements for
students in all undergraduate programmes. Students shape their path of
study within those requirements, selecting from the options available.
The curriculum balances breadth and depth, integrates studio and liberal
arts learning, and gives students exibility in choosing how to reach their
education goals.
Classes focusing on broadly relevant design concepts, tools, and methods,
including studios exploring 2D and 3D processes, drawing, and digital design
as well as liberal arts seminars, bring together students who are passionate
about all kinds of art and design and who will one day forge new paths in an array
of disciplines. This interaction is a central aspect of the rst-year experience.

COMMUNICATION DESIGN
DEVELOPING YOUR CRAFT
ISDIs diploma in Communication Design (CD) is a three-year specialisation pursued by students
who have completed their Foundation Year.
The content of the courses will help students learn about multidisciplinary and collaborative approaches
to design processes, addressing branding, visual identity, design history, digital technology, communication
theory, sustainable graphic design, design research, entrepreneurship and professional practice. Students in
this programme will acquire skills and process knowledge based on both the disciplines historical tradition
and the potential of modern technology within the systems and structures of society.
The focus of ISDIs Communication Design programme is on process. Mastery of design skills is essential
to the education of a designer and one of the key learnings for students will be the thorough engagement
with process and creative problem solving.

LEARNING FORM & FUNCTION
ISDIs diploma in Product Design (PD) is a three-year specialisation pursued by students who have
completed their Foundation Year.
Throughout the course students are immersed in materials, fabrication processes, aesthetic consideration,
and proactive social engagement. The product design curriculum encourages lateral thinking through a range
of related skill-building courses in graphic representation and material prototyping. The programme is also
vertically integrated through a materials and sustainability curriculum that combines technique with ethical
considerations of the chain of consequences triggered by every design decision.
Besides the core curriculum, students can choose from a diverse menu of electives including user-centered
design, material innovation, ethnographic research, mass-market product design and design for the public realm.

ISDIs diploma in Interior Design (ID) is a three-year specialisation pursued by students who have
completed their Foundation Year.
Interior Design students take a series of Art and Design history and theory courses as well as a studio
sequence that introduces interior and architecture issues of increasing difculty and detail. Students learn
to conceptualise and develop interior designs through to detailed resolution using representational means
ranging from physical models to collage and digital renderings.
Students work in small groups with faculty to develop design concepts for residences, institutions,
commercial spaces and special building types. Each interior is treated as a unique conuence of forces
that students navigate according to a value system that stresses environmental stewardship and
cultural sensitivity.

ISDIs diploma in Fashion Design (FD) is a three-year specialisation pursued by students who have
completed their Foundation Year.
Students will hone their skills in design development and construction and explore fashion contexts
through understanding fashion trends, digital technologies and material processes. Design education

ISDIs Fashion Business Management programme
prepares graduates and young professionals for the
increasingly competitive and innovative fashion and
retail industries. The programme addresses the
evolving landscape of the fashion industry from a
global perspective, as it relates to fashion systems
within the context of design based business practice.
With emphasis on leadership and innovation,
Fashion Business Management seeks to immerse
students in understanding the framing of the
fashion industry as an interconnected marketplace
housing robust ecosystems.
Entrepreneurial skills, knowledge and competencies
will be developed through delivery of a
contemporary curriculum that articulates
elements of production, consumption, supply chain

CREATIVE ENTREPRENEURSHIP
ISDIs Creative Entrepreneurship programme has
been designed to equip designers with skills required
to establish and excel in professional practice,
with an emphasis on setting up a design practice.
During this intensive year students will be exposed
to a host of business management skills ranging from
business strategy and nancial planning, marketing
and market research, talent management and
organisational development.
At the end of the programme, students will be
equipped to plan and organise the daily running of a
studio, and how to ensure that the business thrives
and develops.
DIGITAL DESIGN
ISDIs Digital Design programme uses a
multidisciplinary approach to introduce the
knowledge, technology and skills graduates need
to succeed in the digital industry today. Students
work in an innovative environment with current
technologies to develop awareness of todays
rapidly changing image market.
During this intensive year students will be
exposed to a host of technical skills ranging from
web development, graphic design, 3-D digital
modelling. Management and marketing topics like
branding and advertising, market research,
managing intellectual property and creative talent
management will also be taught during the course.
By the end of the program students will be able
to solve design problems and produce successful
digital solutions, demonstrate prociency in real

Admissions Procedure
For all Academic Programmes in Design and Innovation ISDI follows
a uniform admission procedure which entails the following
Candidates are encouraged to apply online and complete an application form

Once the application form has been processed, candidates will be called
to take part in The ISDI Challenge Entrance Test
An administration fee of Rs 2500 will be charged on the day, please carry a
demand draft in favour of "ISDI" payable in Mumbai
Shortlisted candidates will be admitted to the academic programme
of their choice based on merit
The ISDI Challenge Entrance Test
Exam Format
The ISDI Challenge consists ofthree activities andno prior preparation is required.
Part 1 - Design Aptitude Test - 1 hour
The Design Aptitude Test examines aptitude for drawing, design ability,
power of observation and lateral thinking.
Part 2 - Studio Challenge - 1 hour
The Studio Test examines aptitude for creativity, ideation and imagination and
on-the-spot problem solving.
Part 3 - Interpersonal Interview - 15 minutes
The Interpersonal Interview examines applicants for focus, maturity and
condence, general awareness, communication skills and t, for a career
as a designer.
Evaluation
The completed application form and all three parts of the ISDI Challenge are
weighted equally in the assessment of a candidate.
