It's not just the weather, or the mountains, or the accent that highlight the differences between Scotland and England, there are some matters of politics and ways of life too that set the nations apart. There are important cultural differences between Scotland and England. Some of the most important facets of our society are different to yours - for example, our education system, our money, and our media. ne of the major differences between reality and the motion picture was !ery ob!ious from the beginning language. Scottish people of that particular time period, "#th-"$th centuries, would not ha!e spo%en English. &ather, the uneducated people would be spea%ing their nati!e 'aelic, and educated Scotsman would ha!e been spea%ing either 'aelic or (atin. The Scottish nobles, rebels and peasants as well as the English soldiers and royalty all spea% English. There are so many different aspects to consider here. The English language could be totally different, it ta%es so little to change that much. )aybe we will not ha!e so many different accents and dialects in the future, since our societies are getting more closely lin%ed together by new technology. There are also many differences in the speech habits in a major city. This is connected with social class, education, age and so on. Scottish English has also been loo%ed down upon by other English spea%ers and it has been considered as a lower class speech. This is probably a result of Scotland's history, since they ha!e been and still are a part of *ritain, e!en though they ha!e some self go!ernment today.

The history of Scotland is stained with bloody battles and the fierce independence of a people who refused to be con+uered easily.
